I own both the SOG Tomahawk, big brother to the FastHawk, and the FastHawk ~ and I think both are fine tools. I have been using bladed tools since at least age 12, some 56 years ago, as a regular part of my daily life ~ knives, full length maul logsplitters, hatchet length logsplitters, axes in both double-bitted and single-bitted forms, cruiser axes, and hatchets of various sorts depending upon the uses to which they are to be put. The cruiser axe has long been my pack axe when a hatchet will not suffice. I think that I will soon find out that the SOG Tomahawk and the SOG FastHawk are going to displace the cruiser axe with my pack -- moreover, carrying both at the same time: they are that light and handy. Better yet, the FastHawk is so FAST! and convenient that I have already found it nearby at almost every turn of my home shop or woodside days. The FastHawk is a FINE tool and a useful one that man or woman can wield all day long without strain. And the Walmart price is right. However, there is one thing I am changing about both the Tomahawk and the FastHawk: I will make leather cases to protect the heads and (they are SHARP!) myself, and I will make them so that the tools can be drawn in one smooth upward motion of the head from the sheath.
