Panasonic Canister Vacuum Cleaner, Burgundy, MC-CG902
Excellent Quality and Value
I was looking to replace my old Kenmore vacuum, but the reviews for the newer models weren't that great, they had too many bells and whistles that I didn't want or need, and they were rather pricey (plus the colors were not of my liking). I found this Panasonic online which looks identical to another Kenmore I owned in the past (so clearly, Panasonic made certain Kenmore models). It works great! Great suction, it's easy to switch between the attachments, the motorized floor attachment is easily removed with a foot pedal, the cord is easily retracted by stepping on a pedal on the back of the canister, and I love the on/off switch on the handle. I'm glad I found this!
Good Value Vacuum Cleaner
I have always owned Sears Kenmore canisters which were made by Panasonic. The power nozzle broke on my 20 year old Kenmore and decided to put the money into a new machine and use the old one in my shop. The Panasonic canister is virtually identical to the Kenmore in every respect, but is less expensive than a new Kenmore. I used to buy Sears products on the theory that they could be serviced until Sears closed their service centers a few years ago. I no longer shop at Sears for that reason. May as well get the lowest price. The Panasonic parts and bags are interchangeable with Kenmore. You could spend much more on a high end canister that would not do the job this one does or last as long.
Fun to drive!
This vacuum is lightweight and both the power wand and the canister are easy to maneuver. The on-off switch is on the wand--no more foot-switch. The tools are stored under the lid--very clever--no way they will fall off! Easy removal of the power wand too. I was amazed how quiet this vacuum is, even with the power sweeper. My cats were not freaked out at all. Excellent cleaning on my medium-deep carpet and bare floors. I was able to catch the dirt that's right up against the wall. Some folks have commented that there is no indicator light for a full bag--that's true. Will need to regularly monitor the status of the bag and of the 2 filters.
Love the canister
I'm a canister vacuum lover. I love the versatility and convenience of having everything with me as I move through the house. This vacuum does it all. I used to buy the Kenmore, but their quality has gone down hill. The Panasonic is virtually the same vacuum with some nice new features. I'm so glad I found it. Great quality.
Good Vacuum for the money!
I like this vacuum because of the dusting brush. Returned a Kenmore because the brush was so large and the bristles were very short. It vacuums well. It's a basic unit with nothing fancy. Doesn't have a dust bag full indicator which I will miss but I will be able to tell by the suction. It has a large dust bag compared to my old vacuum. The hose could be a little longer. I like the fact that it doesn't have all kinds of parts. It has the Good House Keeping seal.
A very good canister vacuum cleaner for the money.
I purchased my Panasonic canister vacuum cleaner after my 38 year old green Eureka canister finally quit. I really like this vacuum, really does a good job on my carpets, and the attachments do a nice job on furniture, pillows and dusting and isn't as loud and seems to have a lot of horsepower. My only concern is that I have a difficult time separating the power nozzle wand from the vacuum hose. I'm not a weakling but the button is hard to push in and pull apart the wand from the hose. Overall I'm very satisfied with the quality of this vacuum.
Powerful, well constructed but a bit bulky
Vacuum seems to have plenty of power and suction for mostly bare floors and short pile area rugs. Unit may be a bit heavy and bulky for a smaller adult to manage. Generous bag size is a bonus. Also, Sears brand HEPA filter fits this machine (about 1/2 the price of the Panasonic branded HEPA filter).
I ordered this product based upon the primarily good reviews I had read over the internet. Unfortunately, one of the reviews mentioned that the electrical relay system has provided problems and I believe that is what occurred with the product that I had. When I originally hooked up the machine, it ran like a dream for the 5 minutes that I had it plugged in (simply just checking it out!) I loved the way it handled, movement, etc as I have a small duplex space and my upright is very cumbersome. Unfortunately, when I plugged in the machine the next day, it wouldn't start until I manipulated the plug on the beater bar and then the motor only ran for 5 minutes and quit. Therefore, although I marked that I would recommend this to a friend and I believe the machine would have been sufficient for my needs, it had to be returned, and I won't be reordering. If a person purchases this item, I would strongly suggest that any item be carefully checked out before it is shipped.
I returned this vacuum because it was cheaply made: the plastic was light, the wheels seemed fragile, the connectors were not very positive, the hinge on the lid was sticky and difficult and light-weight, and the switch seemed cheap. This machine is exactly like my last Kenmore but even flimsier. This last vacuum I had fell completely apart: wheels, connectors, hose, cord reel, and the stop on the powerbar that holds the hose and tube upright. Since this purchase I've read that Kenmore is made by Panasonic. It did work quietly, it did have a thick bag and good filter and the hose was very sturdy unlike the stiff plastic tubes on the cheap machines I've seen. For the price, I felt the quality should have been higher. Perhaps I'm just afraid of repeating the failure of my last vacuum. I'd estimate that this machine could last without physical problems for a couple or three years if treated tenderly - the wheels seem to be the weakest point and then the switch on the handle followed closely by the hinge for the top (this part was one thing that didn't break on my old Kenmore but it never operated easily and caused lots of frustration at every bag change - the one on this Panasonic was even stiffer and felt flimsier). If I expected to replace the machine in a few years and felt that an average per year cost of $60 was a good price then I would have kept it because it did seem to function when I tested it.
Good Vacuum / Slight Problem
I researched this vacuum prior to purchasing it, unfortunately I could not find a store in Canada to buy it from and the price was good at Walmart.com $199. First time I used it, the hose did not have a secure connection to the canister and it would lose power. I had to push down on the hose connection on the canister every now and then to get the vacuum to work. I thought no problem I will just re-order the vacuum and take the defective one back to Walmart in the US. The problem in doing that is I will lose money on my credit card because I had to pay in Canadian funds $243. My credit card company will give me less the $199. So the amount of money lost is not really worth the chance in driving back to the US, paying customs and possibly getting another defective vacuum. Although I like the vacuum, if the hose would stay in securely I wouldn't have to deal with trying to figure out whether it is worth losing money.
Best Vacuum value for the money
This vacuum cleaner is comparable to the best vacuums on the market for a fraction of the price. I'm familiar with most of the high-end, expensive brands and they have no big advantage over this product. Reasons: Huge amount of suction for deep cleaning; Chevron-designed motor-driven wooden brush-roll for great carpet and floor cleaning; excellent motor filter plus a genuine HEPA air filter. Good quality construction (including hose) and variety of tools. Use in conjunction with a high-quality dust bag and you have a first-rate cleaner. Can take some rugged handling, but don't go and beat it to death. Headlight and cord-reel are big bonuses.
Best vacuum I ever had
Can a person be in love with a vacuum cleaner? I love how easy it is to use. I especially like the easy release feature of the motor tool so you can use the bare floor tool. This is conveniently placed so you can use your foot to release it. This is handy if you switch between carpet and bare floor often. The wand is lightweight, something other brands of vacuums do not have as they are now switching to the telescopic handle - which I HATE - it is heavy and bulky, who wants to deal with THAT. The HEPA filter is a big plus and the main filters in general are better than any non-filtered vacuum. Who wants to mess with emptying a cup full of dust and dirt? The motor is super quiet and the suction is great. The 4 level carpet height is easy to adjust as well and it comes with 4 attachments that are kept out of sight inside the cover. I wish they would supply you with more than 1 filter though.
canister vacuum cleaner
The handle is TOO SHORT. I am just under 5ft. 8in., I have to bend over alittle to vacuum, it does not reach all the way to my height ceillings - to give a quick cleaning -. They really need to have at least 6 MORE inches of the whole handle metal piece for comfort of vacuuming. I have a 1200 sq. ft. house and have to stop and sit for acouple minutes half way through the vacuuming as my back hurts from bending over. --- The hose that goes into the canister COMES OUT to easily, which of course stops the vacuum from working, so you have to learn how to pull it it carefully. Other than the above I do like the vacuum. It gets pretty good into all the places I need it to.
I have had the canister only a couple of weeks but so far I love it. I replaced another brand which lasted but not without issues. This one has none of those issues. For instance, the hose on this one is reinforced not a cheap one that will kink cutting off airflow. The hose swivels 360 degrees which is great. No having to turn the entire body of the vac around. I have hardwood, tile and very large area rugs with various thickness/textures in my home. Since this vac has height adjustments and not just an adjustable airflow (which this one does as well) , the suction on vac picks up on all surfaces without a problem. It so easy to go from one surface to the other with a flick of the switch on the handle to shut off the brush on the power head. (be aware that the light shuts off as well when the brushes are off?) The whole unit handle and body glide and maneuver easily on all surfaces. None of this canister turning over while using it or when you stop and walk away the nozzle falls over and dings the floor, walls or furniture (like my old one did) The cord retracts easily and quickly. it also releases easily as you go too so you don't wind up having to pull the cord out before you start because it unplugs itself from the wall if you don't. Only con I see on this so far is this puppy is heavy. I don't think I would want to make a habit of having to haul it up and down stairs. Otherwise the weight is not an issue . Love that the tools are stored on board as well. No running to get the tools you need.
Not for tall people
The vacuum has great power, the 26ft cord is wonderful however the hose and wand are way too short for a tall person. Because of the short hose and wand the unit follows you at your heals. Also, the accessory tools are at the wrong angle when you are tall. Overall it is a great unit for a short person.
Good canister vacuum for the price
Now-a-days it is hard to find ANY canister vacuum, so I took a chance on this one. Happy to say that I am pleased with the purchase. I only gave it 4 stars because it is a bit larger and heavier than my past vacuums, but it is working like a charm. I like that the hose pivots 360 degrees and wont get all tangled and the electric cord is longer than most vacuums, so I can plug it into a central location in my condo and it reaches everywhere! (Better than most common brands out there (Electrolux, Dyson, Bissel, etc.), with exception of Hoover. I'll be honest, if Hoover were making an affordable canister vacuum right now, I would've bought Hoover instead.)
Loved it but plastic closure ineffective
I really wanted to love this vacuum even though all I wanted it for was the wand and hose for cobwebs in high or tight areas. It had everything and was well designed with compartments for everything. But...when the hose is attached and the bag folded down out of the way correctly, the plastic closure isn't strong enough to keep the canister closed. The canister kept snapping open with the slightest movement of the hose. I hope I just got a defective product but I wasn't willing to try waiting for another to be delivered. Sorry.
We needed a vacuum cleaner for tile floors and 2 BR carpets, along with a shag 5x8 accent carpet. This vacuum is a perfect solution. The uprights were heavy to hold and to push, and some didn't clean high-pile carpets. We've had it for several days - just moved into a new home - and it's doing its job perfectly. We have some construction dust and dirt and carpets with lots of fuzz, etc. from the move. No problem! We bought it on the recommendation of Consumer Reports and would agree with their comments. So far....really good.
very good "all around" vacuum cleaner.
We needed a vacuum to care for just a small amount of carpet but a lot of hardwood floors. We have a shedding dog that is allowed on the furniture so one of the prime reasons for this purchase was to keep the upholstered chairs free of white dog hair. This vacuum seems to do the job. We have had it only a few weeks so long term, I do not know how this will be but I am very happy with the performance so far. It is colorful, easy to use and small enough to store in a relatively small closet.
