This is a great advent...

This is a great adventure book for kids and their parents who are not too old to still enjoy a rollicking yarn filled with pirates, George Washington and the American revolution, Sopwith Camels, and spying against the Nazis in World War II. How exactly, I'm sure you are asking, can you fit all that into one book. Well it helps if you have a working model of Leonardo da Vinci's, Tempus Machina, a time machine. Nick McIver, our twelve year old hero, is game to try anything. He probably gets this trait from his dad, who was a heroic flying ace in the RAF during the First World War. Along with his sister Kate, his friend Gunner, who had served in the Navy and some other help along the way, Nick leads us from one hair breath escape to another in a continuous romp that will leave you asking for more. This is book two of Nick McIver's adventures in time. Hopefully not the last.

The Time Pirate is the...

The Time Pirate is the follow up to Nick of Time, which we reviewed here on the blog recently. Nick of Time was great and The Time Pirate is even better. Ted Bell never loses his pacing, keeping the story constantly moving along. We get to meet even more wonderful characters (I never knew Martha Washington could be so charming) and venture over to America in this tale. Nick takes flight in this book; don't worry he still sails on ships as well. He continues to fight Billy Blood in the battle of good versus evil and Gunner stays at his side throughout most of it. I liked this book better than the first as it seemed to be more exciting now that we have all of the plot points down with how the time machine works, who's who, and what's what. History lovers and those looking for an adventure will be sure to find what they are seeking within this series of books that just keep getting better. With all the time in the world at Nick McIver's hands, Bell has endless opportunities to continue on with this series. He would never run out of events or historical people for us to meet. Thus far, he has chosen the events wisely and the people that took part in these events are the icing on the cake. Each character, no matter how short lived in the story, is complete and realistic.

Couldn't get into it at all. I didn't believe for one second that a Sopwith Camel biplane was going to be any use against the Luftwaffe.
