Works great for my needs, however the metal is a tad flimsy, and i had a couple bolts break, but overall a good product.
This "gun safe" was purchased so that some valuables could be securely locked up from unwarranted people. At under $100, it is a good buy. However, this is not a safe but a lockable thin walled cabinet which can be compromised with a drill and a saber saw in less than 5 minutes. Also, a good crow bar could shed the door in less than 10 minutes. But what can you expect for $100 these days?
Also, it is labeled "easy to build" which is true but it takes a skilled craftsman over 2 hours to assemble because it has over 300 screws, washers and nuts. I suggest that you sort out each type of fastener prior to beginning to assemble this cabinet or you will not stay calm after the first hour. Good value for a cabinet for storage and loads of fun to build - but not very secure.
In general, the quality is pretty darned good for the money. My only real complaint is that the door doesn't latch easily; you have to hold the top in with your hand and the bottom in with your foot to get it to latch at the top and bottom. Other than that, it works well.
This cabinet comes with a surprisingly nice finish that would rival some of the nicer gloss finishes on some of the high end safes. Unfortunately, as mentioned in other reviews, it tends to get damaged in transit.
I read these reviews and since I planned on using it in a closet I ordered it anyway. I had it delivered to my local store and the box had a torn corner when I went there to pick it up.
As a former shipping clerk for a company that made cosmetic aircraft parts, I do have some expertise in packaging product correctly.
Stack On does not do a great job of packaging this model. Sheet metal was bent and dented and paint was scraped off in places. This is not Walmart's fault. Protective plastic "cling" film applied to the exterior surfaces and a thicker grade of cardboard box would go far in protecting the cabinet and not cost the manufacturer a lot more. For the price of this unit it should arrive in pristine condition.
I would be upset had I not expected damage.
When we received the gun safe, it was in terrible condition. Pieces were bent so badly that it could not be put together. There were several scratches on it as well. We took it back to the store as soon as we opened the box and saw all the damage. It looked like it came from a yard sale.
Product arrived at me door and after unpacking, it looked like it had been in a war zone. Not one piece of metal was undented. I straightened and worked on it until I could at least begin assembly. Nothing fit properly - terrible quality control. After a whole day messing with this stinking thing, I got it all put together. Now the hard stuff began - the door/lock wouldn't. The nest day I fiddled with the lock and the door for about an hour. I finally figured it out! If I push my foot on the right side of the door, I can lock and unlock the cabinet (again a sign of poor quality control and damage during shipping). Unless you thrive on frustration, don't buy this piece of junk.
