Briefly, my 15 year old set went out. Big disappointment. 60 inch Hitachi rear projector still looking good and a match for any new set: CRT & 1000 lines of resolution.
Since I'm know I'm going to be shopping for the real replacement for this set for a while, I decide to replace my computer monitor with something big enough to enjoy, but not expensive.
Read many reviews on this site and online on maybe 12 sets.
Had decided on the ProScan 42 inch, but not available.
Consumer Reviews gave this set a very good buy rating.
I watched this set for a week with it setting on my desk and too close and looking at about the lower third of the screen. Looked good but could see artifacts and top of screen dim.
Fixed that two weeks ago and have not made any adjustments in the menu: there is one and it's easy to access.
Unfortunately I'm having to use the VGA input. I have a five year old computer and it has no HDMI output.
I also do not have a Bluray player.
That said, it produces a very accurate picture: excelent color, brightness and even with standard DVDs, crisp detail.
In addition to movies, I watched, for instance, Married With Children. This is not in HD or 480i.
It was a little soft, but only a little.
The only thing I see is an occasional blur when people are talking, and a little during a quick hand movement.
Otherwise no bluring in any other kind of fast action.
Open the window blinds and turn on the light, the brightness is still very, very good.
Did not check sound: have stereo hooked up to computer.
The best of the best have problems. If you have worries, buy the extended warranty.
For this small amount of money, I'm impressed.
