It's made of hard, thin, non flex plastic. I've owned three, two cracked at the bottom corners even though I supported them well with at piece of 3/4" plywood and did not let water freeze in them. There's nothing, and I mean NOTHING that will stick to the insides well enough to patch a leak. Not epoxy, not spray on rubber (as seen in commercials), nothing. Doesn't matter how much you roughen up the plastic first, you can't fix it. The overflow hose is too small, the connection at the bottom of the barrel has a hard plastic washer that will leak after a year or so and need to be replaced with a rubber one. OK, now the good parts. The extra wide opening means you'll catch more water and you don't even have to have a downspout installed, just put it where the roof forms a valley. You can easily open the top to clean it out, even keep a goldfish in it for mosquitos. The manufacturer knows this problem well, they sent me new bottoms at no charge. MAYBE they've corrected the problem, I'll see shortly.
