Last year I needed a new rod to surf fish the OBX at Cape Hatteras and decided I was not going to spend a lot of money on something I was only going to use 1 or 2x a year. After doing some looking around I lucked up and seen this rod at BPS in Concord NC. It was much higher in price there so I ordered it at walmart and had it shipped to the store for free. All I can say is this thing is awesome in every way. First it is incredibly light weight for its size, its very sensitive and fairly stiff. I have it matched up to an Okuma Cortex 5 casting reel. The rod is 9' long heavy action and with it I can throw a 3oz sinker and about 1oz of bait nearly 100yrds. It has 50lb power pro line on it and a 20ft 40lb flurocarbon shock leader. Using this outfit I have dragged in from the surf a 4' sand shark, blues up to 6lbs, tons of false albicore, skates, puppy drum, and back home in Lake Norman a 22lb blue,17lb channel catfish. The rod handled all these with no problems at all. While driff fishing for catfish it became hung on the bottom and before I noticed it was hung it had bent all the way over so as the first two eyes on the end of the rod were under water and it stopped the boat. It looked like a "U" in shape. I thought surely it would break but I looked it over and to my surprize no problems....at all! For the money this is one of the best rods I have ever owned, I HIGHLY recommend it!
