First and foremost if you are not ready to quit there is nothing that will be a magical solution to stop smoking and there is no way to magically take away your cravings for a cigarette, but if you want to quit and you are ready from my experience and from talking to others that have used the patch, this can work for you. Some people report problems with patch sticking. a) I found through talking to people that depending on the shape of your arm (not the size) and the location of placement, as well as, how much hair you have will be a factor in how well patches stick. If you have problem with square patches, switch to a brand that has round patches and everyone I talked to that had that issue said that solved the problem for them.
b) Put the patches on clean skin. Either bathe or clean the area with alcohol before putting the patch on. If you have hairy arms, you are going to have to shave a spot for the patch on each arm. Hair will affect how well it sticks. Location will affect how well it sticks as well. Underside of my bicep did not work well for me but the outside of my upper arm seemed to work fine.
Note - I had no issues with the patch sticking other than when I tried the underside of my arm. I alternated, per instructions, and switched arms every day. I have worked out in the yard with the patch on and sweat like a pig and then showered after and the patch still stayed on. If you do shower with it on just try not to let the water run over the patch much and it should be fine. Here is how it has gone for me so far. I am just starting week 6 of the process and the end of my first week at Stage 2 14mg patches. I started with the 21mg patches and was still smoking some during week 1. I could not sleep with the 21mg patches on. They made me too restless and i would toss and turn so after 2 nights of trying to sleep with the 21mg patch on I decided to take it off at night right before I went to sleep and put a fresh one on in the mornings. With the 21mg patch that process worked well for me. I would notice an itching sensation when i first put the patches on that would go away a few minutes later but other than that the patches have not bothered me and I have had no problems with them. Week 1 - 21mg patches and I smoked a few cigs in the morning before i put the patch on and i would smoke a few in the evening before i went to bed. Near the end of the first week i really started to notice i was still smoking more for the social aspect of it than the craving for it and found myself missing the socail aspect of it and i felt awkward at times. Like i needed to get up and go smoke but i was not craving a cig. Week 2 - 21mg patches. I stopped smoking (i took a few drags off my wifes cigs a couple of time during the week. More because I missed smoking ( i was someone who enjoyed smoking not just because of the addiction but also because of the habit.) During week 2 i never smoked a full cig. I only took a few drags a few times throughout the week. I did not really crave a cig from an addiction standpoint. It curbed my cravings pretty well, but i did still feel the urge of the Habit. We all know there are many times we smoke a cig when we aren't really craving one but we are in a social situation where we are use to smoking. After a meal, maybe when your driving, whenever. We all have our times when we like to smoke even if we arent actually craving one at the moment. During this week i found myself coughing a lot. Noticed a difference in taste. Everything started tasting better. Week 3- 21mg patches. I did not smoke a cig at all during week 3. Noticed that my breathing was getting a little better and i was not hacking up a lung at all during the mornings. Still coughing some but getting better. The habit of reaching for a cigarette when I was driving and during other social situations seems to be gone. Week 4 - 21mg patches. Wife and I decided to have a few drinks at home. I wanted a cigarette when I was drinking. Tired to some one. Tasted horrible and I decided to put it out after about 4 drags. That was the only cig i touched all week. Week 5- 14mg patches. Day 1& 2 were a little rough. I found my self craving a cigarette a little bit. I was still taking the patch off at night. Tried leaving it on at night and day 3 through the rest of the week were fine. I took a few drags off wifes cigs on 2 different occasions on day 1 & 2 but tasted so bad I didnt want any more. Week 6 - 14mg patches. I am starting week 6 now and i would say that I have this whipped now. Even if you smoke a cig in the first few weeks and you take a few drags here and there dont let that sway you. I will stay on the 14mg patches for this week and 2 more weeks. That will be a month at 21mg, a moth at 14mg and i will stay on the 7mg patches as long as it takes to finish things off and quit. So far, I would say it is going great and I would say if you want to quit and you are thinking about using the patch, then go for it. I will say that if I had not wanted to quit and I was doing this to make someone else happy, it would have been harder but I could still work. If you are trying to quit for someone other than yourself you may have to exercise a little more will power than someone who wants to quit, but it still can work for you. I've seen reports that say not to use the patches more than 6-8 weeks. I have talked to my doctor and wife's sister who is a nurse and both agree the only real risk when weighed against the affects of cigarettes are irritation of the skin. If you don't have any problems other than a little redness then you can use these for as many weeks as it takes to quit. I plan on using them for a full 3 months. Check with your doctor to see what he thinks about using them more than 8 weeks, but really this is cheaper than smoking and if it takes you 6 months to quit then so be it. So for me, this has been and will continue to be, a great product to help you quit smoking. You will still have some cravings that you are going to have to not give into. But this has made it so easy to overcome those cravings. If you want to quit, then I would say definitely give this a try. It is working for me. I can say at this point, that I have no doubt that I will quit smoking. Actually, I have quit smoking now. I just need to gradually quit the patch now, which I am confident I will be off the patch and cigarettes for good within a few more months. Hope this review helps you and go for it.
