I bought this product hoping it would supplement our homeschooling. I thought it was neat that when you set up the game, you as the parent can pick which holiday(s) your child is allowed to celebrate in the game. (Only gives major holidays to choose from and includes Chinese New Year, Hanakuh & Kwanzaa)
This game is really awesome. I was amazed by the quality of the game. It is neater than most adult RP games I have seen.
It seems to be educational. It does require kids to pay attention and follow directions. There are certain 'things' a child has to do to get another piece of the map to open up. For example, at one point my child was able to buy a pet that follows him throughout the game. He has to feed, bath and care for it using his 'money' to do this.
There are a certain amount of 'lessons' per unit. Some lessons are math, others reading and some general knowledge stuff like understanding how to read a calendar.
The only negative I have found so far is that this game requires you be on the interenet the whole time the child is playing. I know - who doesn't have internet right? But for us this could potentially be a problem b/c we live in an area where the only internet available to us is a USB based wireless internet that cost according to how much time we are on the internet. That is my reason for the 4 stars instead of 5.
The only other thing about this game I didn't particularly care for - is it requires you register the game over the internet and then they want you to sign up for the 'full' membership which cost per month, year or lifetime.
Even without the membership though, you can print progress reports on your child and it breaks it down by item. For example, recognizing shapes, addition, etc. We didn't purchase full membership and there is still PLENTY for our child to do with this game!
Our child really does beg us to 'do school' on the computer. It is pretty incredible. Overall excellent game but I think next time I will be more careful to pick one that doesn't require constant internet connection.
my son loves this
