I had this watch for 3 years- battery replaced 1x.
Periodically have to re-orient/calibrate the compass b/c you can inadvertently press the mode button and end up resetting it/ or even leaving it on the compass setting for an extended period of time can prevent it from functioning... easy to recalibrate- just press/hold set and rotate 2x slowly... enter any declination (if known - for proper map orientation/ grid-magnetic deviation). I used it extensively on Land Nav. courses (army) and even on missions in Afg... my ONLY problem was the type before this had a unique band- when it wore out- it was difficult to find the exact one to order from Timex. It's not the most sexy watch- but it works perfectly. I also like the events reminder function and multiple time setting - was very helpful going from home- Texas- to training- Washington St- to Afg... that way I always knew without thinking- ok- I'm +9.5 and Texas is -6 when not in Daylight Savings... oh- one last thing- if you hate scrolling through the MANY options- you can even disable them from showing up in the scroll menu!
I am sad to say, I took it off for training and lost it.. buying another
The watch would be fine, but it apparently was in Wal-Mart inventory so long the battery is almost dead. Now I have to replace the battery, and compromise the water-resistancy of the watch.
This is a great watch for my Fiance'. He works outside all the time and this is hard to break.
Compass doesnt work right
Watch is great for outdoors. Would advise to re-calibrate with each use, however it stays pretty accurate for extended periods of time. Enjoy the Indiglo with low light and the timer with ease of campfire cooking. Would buy the same thing again to replace, but my current one is still just as good as it was when I bought it 3 years ago.
