We homeschool, and we were looking for another tool to add to our repertoire. Our 6 year old has struggled with her reading, mostly her confidence, and I was looking for a non-threatening fun approach - this was it! She has really enjoyed these books, especially during her inidividual reading time at night. It's boosted her skills and confidence, and she's improving in her regular daily lessons. She's actually starting to enjoy reading, and that was our goal. Even though our kids are comfortable with Tag reader books, I reviewed one of the Phonics books with them to be sure they were comfortable with the different modes and using them to their full capacity. Your child can use the books in the following ways: have the pen reader read each page of the story to them, have each word read to them, have each letter sounded out for them, or have each letter identified for them (for the very beginning reader). The stories are cute, pictures colorful, the usual Tag reader standards I've come to expect. I would recommend these books to any beginning reader old enough to manipulate the Tag reader pen. These could even be fun for an iliterate adult learning to read. If you're new to Tag reader just know that you will need to have access to a computer with the internet to initially download the audio for any books you purchase onto the Tag reader. Leap Frog makes it easy, if not a little time consuming, and the connector cable needed is included when you purchase a new Tag reader.
