I was a renter when my landlord installed these throughout the house. Two of the three units installed would randomly test themselves at the most inopportune times, like at 3am when we were all sleeping. It beeps horrifically loud and then says "testing..." And comes up with "0 ppm"...nothing. It traumatized my daughter, going off in her bedroom in the middle of the night a handful of times. The last thing you want to deal with is waking up to a scared infant or toddler because that thing wants to "test" itself. The third unit in our home, same brand and model, never did this. Just the one in our bedroom and my daughter's. We did research and found out that this was a common occurance with these units.
It's horrible. I can understand the important role this serves to save lives but when it wakes you up to the loudest alarm ever, for testing only and on a regular basis, people are going to want to disconnect these and that's not leading to safety.
