I put recommend on this unit as I did not know of a better alternative. I loved the unit but it started falling apart on me. Using a Knee Scooter is the way to get around and this unit is great. I only weigh 180 lbs but at the 5th week of using it, one of the bolts sheared off (holds the front wheel to the steering mechanism) and I did not know how I would get around as I was under orders not to put weight on my foot. I got it fixed then the same bolt but on the otherside began bending so I got that fixed at 7 weeks out. At 9 weeks, I sheared a different bolt on the rear. I am trying another knee scooter but that one does not have as nice of a pad and the turning radius is not as good. I tried one at the doctor's office but that one is too short for me (6'3") and the wheel base was too wide and the disc breaks would have thrown me off the unit.
I had surgery on my foot. Last time I was on crutches I got "help" and fell down a flight of stair and hurt my shoulder. After a few day on crutches again I needed a better solution. I live in an area with lots of dirt roads, parking lots, and uneven sidewalks. I was attracted by the larger wheels and ability to steer it. You can go out and move around with ease. I would like a little wider wheels or a way to purchase wider wheels, it is a bit tough in soft dirt. The brake holds well on all but very steep slopes. The knee pad is very nice and thick. The design works well with a splint and then a cast edge. Crutches are dangerous, this is a great solution. No sore arms, and one tired leg, or loosing your balance on a slippery floors. I got a prescription for it from my doctor.
allow me to get into places where I am not able to get into with my wheelchair or scooter
This knee-walker is a great product, and got me back on my "feet" after being nearly helpless with a broken ankle. However, the "swivel" or turning ability of the left front wheel locks up frequently, and my husband has had to disassemble it 3 times in 2 weeks to loosen up the bolt that holds the wheel to the body. Otherwise, I am VERY pleased with the thing, and sing its praises to anyone who asks.
I have really loved using this knee walker, but, it has a design flaw. In the last 5 weeks I have had both front bolts break. I would recommend replacing the bolts right after purchase with hardened steel bolts. I had mine fixed at Care Medical in Portland Oregon after each bolt broke. It would have been cheaper to repair if they hadn't had to drill out the broken bolts and would likely have only cost a few dollars. For the price paid I feel the walker was still a good value. Please take the precaution of replacing the bolts so you don't get stuck out somewhere inconvenient. Walmart delivered it quickly when I ordered it.
