This soy sauce lacks the delicate flavors and balance of good soy sauce. It is also very salty. I will still buy soy sauce at WalMart, but it will be Kikkoman.
I always buy La Choy Soy sauce. My local Walmart store all of a sudden stopped carrying it and had this product in its place. It is terrible. I have never tasted something so foul. I cannot even use it for sauces or marinades let alone put it on rice. I am usually a loyal GREAT VALUE customer, there are only a few items I buy by brand name, my soy sauce was one of them. I am hugely disappointed with this product.
The red capped bottle is not gluten free and should not be purchased if you are on a strict diet. However, the green capped bottle is gluten free and tastes good.
Firstly, allow me to say that not all generic label products are bad. My pantry happily features other Great Value items, but, this will not be making a return. Soy Sauce, while as an ingredient is considered to be the salt in many recipes, is supposed to bring other notes to the party. Sweet, smoky and savory are a few that it is supposed to have. Yet, this dose of liquid salt lick totally lacks them and is rendered to being little more than ice melt with a bit of water and food coloring added to it as far as it's flavor profile is concerned. Considering that Kikkoman's low sodium sauce (green label) is only a small amount more, yet, packs a great flavor that in many tests and on my own palette comes across as the best available in most stores, loosen the purse strings and go for that instead. Anyone eating your food with it as an ingredient will be thankful for the outlay.
