Kick your phone company to the curb!
The NetTalk Duo is everything it's advertised to be, a low cost per year VOIP phone service. Great product, set up was easy and fast, just make sure you look at their compatible routers list on their web site to avoid any unforeseen problems. Voice quality is great, I only noticed lag when I got a long ways away from my phone's base unit. You can even monitor your phone use and set up various phone line features on NetTalks web site. Highly recommended!

    JUNK!
When I received this, I set it up that evening. The website to activate it wouldn't go through, it kept saying it was unable to activate at this time, please try again later. all the numbers to contact them were disconnected. I was able to call out on the netTalk, but...it came up as some weird out of state number that when they tried to call me back to check it out, it took them to a POWER COMPANY! this is junk and has been returned! I was very disappointed.

I have had this service for a few months & love it!! Before I bought this product I did my research. I tested MagicJack's "online tech chat (only way you can contact them) found it to be exactly what I read online - poor service. Furthermore, I tested NetTalk's tech support via a toll free # & was pleasantly suprised by someone who spoke English!! I like the fact they apparently do not outsource labor. I can even use my HP fax machine with this setup. My wife & I love the free long distance too. The sound quality is crystal clear with no echo & works with our Panasonic phone/answering machine. I use WISP Internet and it works perfectly. IF you are using HughesNet or WildBlue voip will NOT work due to extreme LAG from satellite Internet. You might want to run an Internet speed test on speedtest.net then call NetTalk tech support with your ping/download/upload speeds before making a purchase. Also some routers will not work with NEtTalk again I advise you to consult with their tech support. Thanks Walmart/NetTalk!!!

    Great value, Good service

Simple installation; clear calls. Minimal glitches: Not a true duplex; switches kind of like a speaker-phone. Slight delay between speaking and hearing. Occasional echo. Poor customer service, but considering the monetary savings... $30/year with long distance beats the fool out of $43/mo without long distance. Limited exchange (local prefix/city [the 3 digits in the middle]) number availability. In order to gat a local number it was necessary to port my old land-line number. This only took a week and was my original intention. Must always dial all 10 digits, including local numbers. Two ways to access voice-mail, i.e. *98 and via e-mail. I set-up a new e-mail address just for this. Just make sure that your high speed internet connection is active.

Product is much better than MagicJack Plus

This product was much better than MagicJack Plus for as long as it worked. The firmware in the NetTalk - the programming that makes it go - is much more professionally designed than is that in MagicJack Plus, and the NetTalk setup and activation procedure is as simple as it possibly could be made considering NetTalk is of necessity a complex product. MagicJack Plus's sloppily designed firmware should be an acute professional embarrassment to its builders. Unlike MagicJack Plus, NetTalk does not need to be plugged into a computer to be activated. Hence the activation will leave no garbageware behind that can only help to constipate your computer for evermore. A computer is of course needed for doing the Nettalk setup on the Nettalk website. In my use of the NetTalk before it failed, I found the quality to be impressive indeed. I wondered how they could possibly offer so much good functionality for such a low price, and I now found out. I have not yet attempted to get the NetTalk replaced.

    1. yup, it can connect directly to a router. It can also connect to a computer as an option as well
    by schmota
    2. You need to logon to a computer to set up your account with NetTALK, but your phone will function so long as you have 1.) A strong enough internet connection 2.) Power for the NetTalk 3.) Power for your router/modem I bought it because I don't want to leave my computer on all the time to make calls.
    by BrooklynDoesntLikeYou
    3. Yes. Just plug it into your router. I believe the setup requires a browser but that's all.
    by Poser55
    4. That is correct. However you DO need a "real" phone if you aren't going to use a computer. For instance a cordless or corded one. Also, you need to use the internet so you either need to plug it into the router (be sure it's one that works well with NetTalk- see my review of the product) OR computer in order to have it work. The computer does not have to be on if you are running it through the router. You can go online at nettalk . com and check out their quick start guide via PDF that's also included with the DUO. It will show you how it all works before you purchase it.

    5. The NETALK DUO Does NOT require a computer at all! just plug it in to an ethernet port on your modem or router and your good to go.If you want to plug it in to your computer you can do that also it has a usb port on it for connecting to your computer. That is why it is called the DUO because you can use it two ways. Much better than the Majicjack
    by rs49
    6. Yes, this is the one that does not need a computer to make/receive calls. It just plugs into your router and then you can plug that into a phone for home use. I have it and it works great. Highly recommended.
    by Jrazzy
    7. yes it does not need computer, to make & receive calls.
    by Markthemad
    8. Yes.
    by Techie6725
    9. Yes no computer required; it does require internet service though.
    by rpm2
    10. Yes you are correct, the device plugs directy into your router so no computer is needed. Great product!
    by helipilot500
    11. Yep. Just hook it up to the router.
    by Platgamer
    12. Yes, it does not need a PC. All that is required is an Internet serivce, with a wireless router or modem to connect.

    1. no you don't need high speed internet. high speed is best for streaming video just sound alone is sent over the internet very easily
    by PureC
    2. Means you don't have to have your computer turned on for it to work. It works through your internet modem. Some other products like this uses the computer to go through so it has to be on all the time
    by theonetoask
    3. That's true. It does not connect to your computer but does connect to your hi speed modem. I can't imagine why you would have hi speed internet without a computer but perhaps some do?
    by racer504
    4. yes. VoIP means Voice over Internet Protocol. So you do need high speed Internet.
    by esoterik1967
    5. Yes. This is still a VOIP device.
    by TH777
    6. Yes.
    by nplas
    7. Yes - since it is VOIP. Nettalk Duo will connect to your router directly and eliminate need for a PC and hence superior to MagicJack
    by BizTravler
    8. Of couse, you must have broadband internet.
    by Dynexlover
    9. Yes
    by Technogadgetman
    10. That's true -- you can choose whether to plug it into the router or the computer -- they both work!
    by Kazzzoo
    11. You do need a pc to use the device; however, you can use a pc. I connect directly to the high speed internet router and power outlet wall jack.
    by Mason63
    12. You need access to a computer to set up the device via the nettalk web site and select your phone number, then the computer is no longer needed. The device needs at least 1.5 meg high speed line to make and get calls. Cable modem or VPN line at a min.

    1. No Belkin Routers don't work well with Nettalk. Linksys & Netgear work without any problems what so ever. I dumped my Belkin and got a Cisco/Linksys. Nettalk has a list on there site of routers that work that they have tested
    by PureC
    2. Should work with any router hooked to the internet.
    by theonetoask
    3. it worked fine with my Belkin Surf N300 (F7D6301) without needing to do anything with opening ports. Plugged it in and the setup went quite smoothly.
    by darrylg19
    4. Mine is running excellent on a Belkin wireless G router with Insight as my provider.
    by racer504
    5. It should as long as you have high speed internet and your router is configured properly. Read my review here for more info.
    by esoterik1967
    6. There is a list of routers at NetTalk.com that work well (and some that don't work so well) with NetTalk Duo.
    by stabbtt
    7. See https://forum.nettalk.com/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=1489

    8. Not too good. Google search Nettalk DUO compatible routers for a list on their web site. I have Lynksys E4200. Dont go cheap here if you want flawless quality and performance
    by BizTravler
    9. When I enabled the 5060 port on the firewall, it eliminated the one-way talk issue I was originally having. I have a Belkin Playmax 600. I did not load the DUO in the DMZ to prevent the possibility of hackers. Just follow the instructions under the trouble shooting for a Belkin router at the DUO website and it worked for me.
    by ITTester
    10. The Nettalk Duo device will work with the Belkin router.
    by Mason63
    11. The NetTalk Duo has issues with many routers, some more than others. The Belkin router is one of the more problematic routers. However, NetTalk does offer advice on their website to fix router issues.
    by eeh42
    12. I have a Belkin model F9K1002 v1 with firmware F9K1002_WW_1.00.08. I have a VPN line with (per SpeedTest) of 1.8 Meg. The phone works very well both in and out calls but I do loose a few words if I try to stream video on the PC during calls. Lead a simple life of only one thing at a time and all is well.
