I'm going to give it to you straight! My 9 year old son doesn't like smart toys, he thinks they are too fancy and boring. He loved this product!! I bought it for him at our local store in Secaucus and he was blown away. Firstly, he loves Star Wars. He has never really liked remote control cars because as soon as the battery goes dead, you might as well put them in the cupboard and use them again never! This product is different. I had to help him a little bit sticking the wheels on, but apart from that he did the whole thing himself. Didn't do a great job with the stickers, but it's passable. Once he finished making R2D2, there were all these missions where he could invent his own droid! he could rearrange the sensors to create an intruder alert droid, or make his head spin. He started to understand electronics towards the end of it. One thing I will say, do not try and assemble it without the app, you're in for a world of hurt. There is a diagram on the front - That is not enough information. The app is where it's at, there are some crazy sci-fi 5th dimensional videos showing you how to do things. Also do not assemble on a high table, he will roll right off the moment you turn him on, before you connect it to your phone! we found that out the hard way. He is a resiliant little thing. You should definitely buy this product, if not for your kid, for you!

Perfect gift for aspiring inventors
Bought this for my friend Jill's 8-yr-old daughter, and I haven't heard about anything else since. She now considers me a hero and a God. Whenever I come over, her daughter rushes out to show me her progress on it or different inventions she's made from it. This product is amazing, and if you want to get the best hero of the decade, look no further!
Best Product Ever!
Toy of the Year
This is not your average R2. It is so much more, I was lucky enough to get early access to the product, and I must say, my 9 year old daughter fell in love with it. She was so proud when she finished building Artoo, that she parading him around the house, in the kitchen, laundry, and even took it to be. Can't wait to try the missions
BEST PRESENT FROM HIS UNCLE - HAS INSPIRED MY SON
My son received the droid from his uncle and we built it together and now it's his favourite. It's really changed the way he sees toys and he has become inspired to now do things that create and do rather than just crash things into walls. He now uses his iPad to create and develop something physical, rather than just being stuck in his screen. The best thing, I think the toy will play a path in his direction towards a career in STEM, whether its as a coder or an engineer, he just wants more and more and I couldn't recommend more for all kids.
This is just an awesome gift. I got one for my cousin and we've both been having a blast! I know it's supposed to be just for kids, but anyone who's ever enjoyed Legos would absolutely LOVE this. So many creative possibilities, you get a lot of re-usability out of your purchase. Good way to bond with your younger cousins too :-)
Excellent and affordable gift for children
This was the perfect gift for my ten year old stepdaughter who was interested in a new tech toy. I ended up buying a second one for my eight year old nephew who couldn't stop playing with it when he was over the house. Perfect for their ages -- both challenging and fun! Can't wait to see what littlebits comes up with next!
