    • A. It states it is a 'solid glass rod' and it has a red translucent look to it. If you've ever had the 'Ugly Stick' rod some of them had the last 6" that were solid and translucent. That is the best description I can give you. It feels really strong. So 'solid glass' would be fiber glass? I dont' know. I hope this helps

    • A. This is a light-medium rod. I saw a video on youtube of a guy hooking a very large fish with this rod. I'm guessing he switched out the line to something more heavy duty, but I wouldn't doubt this rod could handle some larger fish such as bass.

    • A. Spincast is the pushbutton kind. We accidentally purchased the more expensive spinning rods, and those are the type that you flip the top metal piece to cast. What a disaster. Tangled up terribly! Get the push button spincast.

    • A. Spincast has a button to release the line, spinning has a bail. Spincast is best for new fishermen.

    • A. I recommend getting them a normal bait cast (closed bail) rod and reel combo. Closed bail is much easier to learn on since it's mainly click a button to release the line. Spinning are open bail (where you see the line spooled on the reel), and they take a bit more talent. I still love closed bail as an adult, but my dad swears by spinning reels. Check out the dock demon by Zebco. They have short rods, under $10 each, and are perfect for small hands.

    • A. spinning is the open faced reels and spincast is the closed faced. If your buying for your grandson then may i suggest the spincsat, less things to go wrong and get knotted up.

    • A. I know this has been answered, but I'll drop in my 2 cents. The spincast would be the best solution for that age. I bought them for my 3 and 4 year old. There will be less chance of tangled lines which will give dad more time to fish and less time cleaning up messes!

    • A. Spincast I've read is for beginners. It's simple to use and doesn't tangle often, but it doesn't cast as far as spinning reels, however. Spinning reels, on the other hand, are good for both beginners and intermediates. You can throw a nice cast with it and they're easy to deal with as well. For 3-5 year olds, I would suggest a spincast as this will help a lot with any tangles.

I got this combo because I wanted a rod that I could take anywhere even on my bike (see pics). I was please to find that it works great. I have caught a lot of nice bass with this combo and the action on this ultra-lite is awesome. It may take a little getting used to such a small rod when casting but it was not to difficult. The quality of the combo depends on how you treat it. The rod is pretty strong. The reel is mostly plastic and a few metal parts so don't thrash it around too much. I haven't restrung the reel and have only had minimal tangles. Price and fun make this a great value.

For $10, you can't beat this thing. I got it just to test it out since it was only $10. I took it with me the other day on my kayak, and caught a 22" redfish and an 18" trout on this little thing. It's one of my favorite rods now. You can't help smiling and laughing as you reel in a good sized fish on this thing.

For under $10.00 this cannot be beat. The rod is a solid piece of fiberglass, you can touch the tip to the handle. I took the reel that came on this, and tossed it on the shelf, replaced it with a Daiwa D-Turbo DT-B trigger spin reel. Caught 6 decent size trout on this setup this past weekend, was very responsive, had a great time fishing this rig.

Keeping this simple; -Cheap. -Effective. -Strong. The line is a 6#, but it has alot of memory, it is useable, however. BUY THIS, if not for the rod itself.

I didn't want to spend a lot and wanted some smaller rods without having to resort to those little 2 piece rods that wear out. This set fit the bill perfectly. My 7 year does a great job with this rod and has caught quite a few trout up in the mountains of NC. I bought one for my 3 year old and tied a big rubber fish lure to it. Now she stands at the edge and casts it out and reels in her "fish". For a 3 year old she can cast at least 30-40 feet! Since she's my daughter I say its all talent, but in all honesty I have to give some credit to this great little fishing pole. For the price it can't be beat. Smooth operation and compact size makes them great for kids. Honestly I have no issues using it and caught me a few nice pan fish myself. Don't waste your money on the cheesy cartoon character rods and reels. They'll break before you know it. Can't go wrong with this set!
