This is my first experience with Docs. I've always thought they were cool looking shoes, and everyone who had them said how comfortable they were. I'm a men's 7.5 US. My foot is narrow and thin. These shoes run large in my experience (which is corroborated by the info on the web page). Docs don't come in half sizes, and they suggest to size down to the next whole size. Docs are also sized in UK, which translates one size smaller than US. So I ordered a size 6.
Out of the box, they felt quite tight across the arch, and they're quite stiff. However, I've worn them, all told, for about 3 days now. At first my feet really hurt, but I can tell the shoes are loosening up. Today they feel much better. I'm betting that after a week, they'll break in and feel great.
I'm happy sizing down a half size; YMMV however, depending on your foot. The shoes are long enough; just tight over the arch for me. The insole is removable and doing so creates a bit more width, but subtracts some comfort from the footbed.
I find the quality OOB is top drawer; nice leather, well made, even, true stitching. I don't find that they feel spongy or bouncy, but they're softer to walk in than any other leather Oxford I've worn. I recomend these shoes, with the caveat to do your homework on sizing. You might want to size them in a brick and mortar store before purchasing online, because fitting appears to be a personal and intentional task with these bad boys. I'm finding shoes.com customer service adequate to the task.
