Nice quality - Very flattering fit!

I was surprised to find a coat designed this nicely and in subtle, non shiny, non cheap-looking fabric options at walmart. I went in looking for sweatpants since I needed a petite length that they carry in the Danskin Now line. I saw this coat on the way to the sweatpants and loved the look and especially the adjustable waistline. I bought the last black houndstooth they had in medium (they call it "rich black print" which is not what I'd have named it) and would have bought the last medium in solid black too but the black one had a balky zipper that I knew would drive me nuts. I also loved the grey but they only had it in a large. After I got home I tried to try to order the medium online in grey (spring fog I see they're calling it here) but it's not in stock online either so I'll have to keep checking back for it. Their designers did a great job with this coat. Construction details make it look like a much more expensive garment. Love the adjustable side snaps with two positions to adjust the waistline. My hips are larger than they should be for my waistline so I usually end up with a very boxy fit in coats that fit well around my hips. This design fixes that problem. The fabric is bonded. I saw a discussion here about whether it is lined or not, with a difference of opinion expressed on that matter. The description says "bonded construction" and it seems they've bonded together two fabrics - the outer water resistant (but matte, not shiny at all) fabric is attached to an inner fleecy layer. So both opinions are correct on the lining issue - it is but it isn't. It's one layer without a separate lining but the single layer is really a double layer with lining attached. Everyone's right! Still not a heavy weight coat but I would wear this with a sweaters underneath for cold weather, not the bitter cold of Chicago in February, but luckily I will be in Florida then! Good things come to those who wait (read = get really old!) I took seven pictures of the coat with a measuring tape in place to show the measurements - length, underarm, waistline snapped large and small, bottom width as well as a closeup of the fabric outside and in. But I see now that walmart limits reviews to a total of two photos. Hmm. They'll probably shrink the photo sizes down too. Maybe they'll let me add a second review. Oh well. In case they won't - here are the measurements for a MEDIUM: length shoulder seam to bottom = 29 1/2" width at shoulder measured from seam to seam = 15 1/2" waist at larger snap setting side to side 18 3/4" (obviously double this for circumference) waist at smaller snap setting side to side 17 1/2" (obviously double this for circumference) underarm side to side 20 1/2" (obviously double this for circumference) bottom hem side to side 22" (obviously double this for circumference) sleeve from shoulder seam to end 23 1/2" (there are no cuff details to prevent me from rolling them up or hemming them since my arms are short - I usually wear a petite if offered - hence my hunt for petite sweatpants that brought me into the store in the first place)
length of medium is 29 1/2"interior fleece - outer is waterproof - (you can see exterior fabric folded up at hemline)

Perfect for travel, easy to pack, dresses up or do

I purchased this coat in red at my local store; wanted black but they were out in my size. I have now ordered it in black online, I love it that much. Will keep both because it's so inexpensive. The fabric and workmanship is surprisingly high quality. The style is tailored and slimming, with princess seaming front and back, and the waist snap tabs allow further shaping. I've been looking a long time for a longer rain jacket for travel -- will be taking this on a trip to Europe and wanted something sleek, stylish, that would work with skirts as well as pants and not look out of place in a city. Didn't want a belt to fuss with, and had a hard time finding something shaped without a belt. The little zipper guard at the top of the neck is a nice feature; it keeps the zipper from scraping your chin when zipped all the way up. Also like the interior pockets, a great thing to have when traveling and wanting to keep items safe. Exterior handwarmer pockets are in exactly the right position. PERFECT item. I can't believe I found this at Walmart!

Great little coat for cold and rain

This is a truly nice coat for the money! Great, figure-flattering cut with adjustable waist. I bought a black one and I love that it is the blackest-black, not one of those greyish black. I love the idea that I can wear in the morning when waiting for the school bus with my child, or later when I'm heading out with friends or for shopping. It can be easy dressed up or down. It protects from rain, wind or just cold weather, while at the same time it's a lot more dressier than most of those cheap rain coats, that sometimes good for rain only, and don't protect from wind or cooler weather. It is very sturdy, and nicely made. The only reason I gave 4 stars on fit accuracy, because it says XL on the size tag and numbers are 16-18, and my size is 10-12. So, when you wear 10-12, you'll need to order XL 16-18 for this coat.

so cute!!

i just purchased this from the actual store after looking at it on here, and I love it!!! i got the red...what a nice deep, non-cheap looking red. the black was also very deep in color and nice, and the purple was a beautiful shade, i had a hard time deciding. in the store they also have another black one in a pattern, like a small houndstooth of shinier black against matte - it was really cute. i wasn't sure on sizing based on the reviews, i was going to order a M (my normal size is M-L, i'm 145lbs, 5'5'', large busted) but i'm glad i went to the store, i got a small, because as always, walmart womens always run large. i love the reverse zipper, and the hood is roomy...wish it had a cinch though. it is thin which i like, can be used in warmer spring and fall in the rain, or layered in the winter. nice soft fleecy feel on the inside. i haven't tested it out in the rain, appears to be waterproof. i love the vibrancy and quality of the colors, i didn't see blue or grey, but i love a nice shade to flaunt on a dreary day! i sooooo wish they had yellow, too!

Great price for a great jacket

OK, so I was a WalMart snob. Yup, I had to have the Northface jacket. Well let me tell you this is such a wonderful jacket. It has 2 way zip - usually only found in your more expensive jackets. Two outside pockets, inside "secret" pockets, a lined hood (great for us gals with a lot of wild hair) and the material can be worn well into fall and it's waterproof. Honestly is there anything that I don't like about this jacket. NO! Save money/live better! Don't be a WalMart snob - say goodbye to spending a lot to get a lot.

Unbelievable quality for the price-runs small.

Bought one for myself in the store and got another as a gift for my sister. Went online and sent one to my aunt in North Dakota--97 cents for shipping makes this an easy gift. Everyone has a different color and we are all delighted. I recommend going up a size for a more comfortable fit.

Great product, fast delivery

The black jackets sold out in all the local stores. Fit was right, styling was very good, so I ordered one online. What a pleasant surprise! Jacket was delivered in two days, way ahead of scheduled delivery and works perfectly. Zipper is high quality. Fits well even over sweaters. Washes nicely.
I ordered this jacket in red. It's a combo red with a touch of burgundy thrown in. I like the way it cuts in at the waist. I'm sure I will get much use out of it. The added benefit is the hood. I live in Portland Oregon where we are known for rain.

Looks like an expensive coat!

Beautiful styling, chic, modern coat. Casual enough to wear with jeans and boots or dressy enough to wear with heels. I purchased the black and I am confident most won't know how little I spent!
this jacket runs a little big in my opinion but its very cute and light. perfect for a rainy day
