    Money Saver.
After spending $20 in copies in my first month of nursing school, i knew I had to find something more efficient. This product is definitely what I was looking for! It is a little difficult to scan books, but in the end it does work. It makes it very easy to share notes with other students. Or to get notes from others if you happen to miss a day. You have to scan very slowly and as straight as possible to get the best picture, but for the most part it works great. You do HAVE to buy a MicroSD card (they are pretty cheap) and i would suggest buying a better case than the little slip it comes with. You can scan in either B&W or color and either high or low resolution. Color works better the darker the pen is. My favorite pen are light blue and pink and sometimes they are difficult to see unless you scan them in B&W. I love my scanner and everyone I show it to thinks it's so cool! Hope this helps.

Hand held scanner is useful. Instructions not clear. Difficult to attach a multple page document to a computer file because it attaches as individual images. Also, if you are scanning several multiple page documents, they all are on the micro chip as one multi page document. Very confusing and not user friendly. But it is very light, small and easy to carry in a briefcase.

    Simple and compact

If you are looking for small and simple device, this is it. The best portable scanner I have ever seen. Simple to use and simple to connect. As a police officer I use this to copy all kind of documents. You can connect via cable or dump to your PC using SD card adapter. It uses micro SD card, which does not come with the scanner (WHY?). When you buy new micro SD card, make sure you buy it with regular SD shell. Most of the micro SD cards will come with it. My laptop has a slot for regular SD card and I can damp all my files into my laptop in no time. This scanner will have some distortions, but for documents it's not a problem. Photos will look good as long, as you practice your hand speed while scanning.

    VuPoint Magic Wand

I have used this product to scan hundreds of photos so far and i can say it is well worth the money. I don't have to warm up a scanner anymore or wait for it to scan the picture. This little hand held gadget is the best thing on the market today. I would definitely recommend it to those that scan a lot of pictures. By the way, don't forget to purchase a mini sd card, you will need it. Overall this is well worth having because of the ease of use and how portable it is.

Makes my work look much more professional

I bought this product to scan review pages in my college books, so my home work would look more professional and less time typing. I found that it saves all its scans as JPG files, in order to be able to edit my scans in micrsoft word, I had to convert the JPG files with OCR program (http://www.free-ocr.com/) that made the file into an editible word doc. Once I figured out how to do it (which didn't take long) it made all my work look great with less time typing .

A fun, fantastic new tool for the research bag

As a genealogist, and webmaster, I am frequently at research locations pulling info. to transcribe later, or to add directly to my website. I spent several hours yesterday scanning in old newspapers from the 1890's, and this scanner worked very well. I did some scans that were the length of the newspaper from top to bottom, and other scans were just parts of individual articles. I tried color and b/w, both worked, but I decided to stay with color. I did just under 300 scans in one session - using a 2GB microSD card. When I finished, I slipped the microSD card into its SD card adapter, and put it in my PC to pull up the images with my card reader. It worked great. The software that came with it was not really necessary, and I don't see why it was included. Once you have your scans, you can use any program that will edit or display .jpg files to view your images. You can also use a SD card reader to transfer files to you computer from the memory card if you don't want to use the cable that comes with it.

    1. You can use this magic wand to scan in sections and then use the microsoft's image composite editor (ICE) which is free to combine them. You only have to make sure that there is atleast 30% overlap between your scanned sections. The ICE tool automatically stitches the document.

    3. It only scans the size of a sheet of paper 8 1/2 X 11. But you might be able to scan portions of it and fix it on the computer, depending on if you have an editing program to do so.

    4. This is actually the perfect tools for you. After you scan your object, you can use a stitch software from Adobe to put them together.

    5. I'm a genealogist too for my family. I haven't tried large scrolls yet, like passenger lists for boats coming to America or Census records. But I would recommend that you try to do it in portions. You need to keep your hand steady scrollling over the document to scan it. The bigger the photo or paper - the bigger the jpg file will be. That's why I'd recommend breaking it into portions if you can.

    6. Yes it will. Make your scans and then paste them together in Adobe Photoshop Elements. Open APE in the edit mode. Open all of the scans. Create a new document slightly larger than the orginal document. Create a new layer and select all. Copy the first scanned file and paste it into the new layer. Use the resize scale feature to adjust the size and placement of the image. Repeat with a new layer for each scanned file. When you like how it looks, make a duplicate file. Using the duplicate file, merge all of the layers. Crop excess area as desired. Save the Duplicate file as a .jpg Save the original file as a .psd file (in case you decide to make any changes later.

    1. Do you have another way to move the data to your computer? I have a card reader for my computer - so I use that to transfer the images from my Magic Wand to my PC.

    2. With the card inserted into your computer card reader or the scanner connected to your computer. Go to my computer. Select the card/scanner (double click) highlight all of the files (click on the first one, hold the shift key and go to last file and click it) Then hit your delete key. This will erase all of the highlighted files.

    5. Open the MicroSD card from My Computer section of your PC (assuming this is what you have). Then you can mannually delete or simply rename the file. i believe you can also organize them into folders... I just put everything on my desktop, then delete it from my SD card.

    6. I used Windows Explorer and treated the card like a removable storage device. Once I downloaded the images, I deleted them off the card. Periodically, you want to re-format the card. The little manual gives complete instructions on that. Good Luck.
