Perfect for cats who are afraid of enclosed places
I bought this because I was tired of cleaning up the mess my cat makes when digging in his litter and covering up his business. I've tried other covered litter pans in the past, but my cat was too nervous about going in a dark enclosed space. Also, I found it awkward to have to find a place to put the cover down when I cleaned out the litter box and hard to tell when it needed cleaning. This covered litter box with a translucent lid worked out perfectly for both me and my cat. It's clear enough to let light come through, so my cat is more comfortable using it. The reflected light also helps me tell if the box needs cleaning, without having to remove the lid. I put a hook on the wall behind the litter box, and that's where I put the lid when I take it off. I am so happy about how much easier this has made my life. Laugh if you will, but I smile every time I see my cat use the box. And all for a ridiculously low price.
A great pet product!
I was looking for a replacement for two of my previous covered litter trays. They were almost seven years old, had become very brittle and were cracking. As well, the lids no longer fit and could not be locked so I could no longer use them. After looking for ages, and checking out many different makes and models, I finally ordered two of the Van Ness product online. They are terrific: light weight, well constructed, translucent which is great for our diverse mix of cats, some of which are very skittish and their locking mechanism works so well. These covered litter boxes are so safe and save us so much cleanup time. Since we rescued 26 cats some five years ago but still have 10 still living with us along with an eleventh that chose our house as his home, we will be replacing our remaining five with more of the Van Ness boxes, as we can afford to do so.
Locking cat pan
I found this to be an excellent product that my cat took to right away. I especially like that the lid locks in place so my cat can't keep knocking it off, It's easy to pick up even when it has litter in it and the filter keeps it from smelling
Better than the last one!
So this one came well packaged. The last one had no packing materials in it. I wish it was as translucent as it looks in the stock photo. (So the cats can do their business, without feeling closed in.) You'll see from my pic, that it is not. It's good for odor control. I handle it with care, because after the mess the other one came in, the plastic does feel like it would crack easily. Another con, cleaning the litter. That cute so called 'elegant' design does not make it easy to scoop the litter. You have to get in there and dig out the litter. It doesn't come out in a rounded ball, because the corners are not smooth. I've tried 2 different scoopable litters, with the same results. To buy or not to buy? For me, I would buy this 'type' of litter pan again, but not this one in particular. Mainly because of the way the pan is designed. You want to get in, scoop and get it done. Not work around a design that doesn't allow the litter to clump properly.
