The size is a good fit because it is a similar width to the size television it is recommended for.

It is only good up to a certain size if you want a match to TV. You can use any size if you want better than TV sound. If you look at full home theater set ups the speakers never match TV size. Let your ears guide you not eyes if sound is the main object.

42&quot; + class tv&#39;s, just means it&#39;s sized for tv&#39;s 42&quot; or bigger. It will work just fine with a smaller tv, but the size of the speaker would likely be wider than your tv if you use it with something smaller and it might look funny.

Functionally, you could hook up the soundbar to your phone and stream netflix if you wanted.

Ideally, the bar should be about the same width of your TV. If it&#39;s too wide, it will be wider than your set and look funny. If it&#39;s a lot narrower than your set, you will not get as much stereo separation between the channels as you got with the TV&#39;s own speakers, which tend to be  located on the outer edges of your set.  But this would be fine for a set a little bigger or smaller than a 42-inch. I use one with a 50-inch set and the stereo sounds just fine.
