Overall, I like this unit. It's quiet and it throw moisture quickly. It's the right size for my room, based on the size ratings but it struggles to keep up. I have to fill it twice a day and it still struggles to get the room to 30% humidity when it's really cold outside.
That said, you'd think I'd give it a lower rating but I understand that there are a lot of factors at play that determine the effectiveness of a humidifier. First and foremost, while my room is smaller than the largest rated sized for this humidifier, it has a very large door opening into another room which also opens into another room. That is not the humidifier's fault and I assume I'm losing some of the moisture to the adjoining rooms. Even though that is the case, this unit has eliminated static discharge, 100%. The dog no longer gets shocked when I pet her.
I noticed that some of the negative reviews talked about the area surrounding the unit being soaking wet. That has not happened to me and I understand that the problem is generally caused by exceeding the recommended amount of humidity. I have barely seen any condensation on the lip of the tank, itself, because I am at the low end of the humidity recommended. If I were to discover excess moisture, I'd simply turn the unit down so that it doesn't add too much moisture to the air.
In reality, I probably should have purchased a console unit but I didn't want anything that large or that loud. If worse comes to worse, my plan is to buy a second unit and place it in a connecting room.
The bottom line is that for me, this unit is doing exactly what it was advertised to do.
My only complaint is that for the small amount of savings I realized by buying it from Wal*Mart it took far too long for delivery. For the extra couple of bucks, I'll probably buy the next one on Amazon and have it in my hands within two days.
