    1) Recommend a button should be provided for the user to understand the overall purpose and scope of each section requiring data input. I would have found such a "big picture" discussion both informative and useful. 2) In my case, even though I had no income or expenses for consulting services that I last performed in 2006, a Schedule C, all with zeros, was included. I attempted to remove it, but the instructions on the Quicken WEB site addressing removal made no sense to me. Therefore my 2008 Taxes submittal included a Schedule C - I think the short form. There was no reason for it to be included. 3) It's not clear to me that the software fully addresses all of the information that I should have available to ensure my IRA Account information is correct. This is due, in part, to a knowledge deficiency on my part. However, it would be helpful if the software included, at least, basic information, with clear references to further information that the user could access outside of the software.

Take, for instance, charitable contributions. We give to MANY organizations. (1) TurboTax remembers last year's list, but does NOT sort them alphabetically or by any other way that I can discern. Mapping them to our various records (mostly Quicken, but manual) is a PITA, for no good reason. Then for EVERY org we support, I have to click a bunch of buttons for what seems a common situation that we give ONE cash contribution to each org. However, I have to wait for each contrib to update, then separately say I'm done w/ that org. Finally, TurboTax violates Mac User Interface Guidelines in important ways. Most pages have a button highlighted in blue, which is supposed to signify that it will be selected if you hit RETURN. This, plus little stupidities such as having "7/15" for the payment date of a contribution being interpreted as July, 1915 (when all deductions should have been made in 2009) just compounds the aggravation of a program that may be technically correct, but a pain to use.

t The deluxe program should know, which states have aragements with each other. Like wisconsin and Illinois, I live in Wisconsin and work in Illinois but I only have to pay income taxes in Wisconsin. But your program said Ineededto file in both states, so i thought they changed the laws. But Illinois kept getting rejected, the program could not figure it out. I finally called the state and they said I don't need to file in Illinois. TheProblem is I had already paid for Illinois and didn't want to pay for Wisconsin also. I called and talked to a rep. she gave me a code to put in for the Wisconsin filing, but it did not work. Then she put me on hold and came back and said they took care of it. to just sign out relog in and let the program reupdate and it would let me file. It did not work. I gave up and had to get it done, so I went ahead and paid for it again. I will wait and see what is taken out of my account. If it is traken out twice I will have to call and ask for a refund again.

My biggest complaint is that an entry into the charitable deductions part of the deductions worksheet did not print out on the summary of charitable deductions, After over an hour on the phone, the customer service person worked it down to a missing adddress of a charity and a missing number. By the way, the customer service person was very helpful and patient; my computer was working slowly. I see no reason why I had to fill out the names and addresses of charities that we donated to. I don't think the IRS requires this information. It was quite time consuming to do this. And at the time, I thought this was the only way I could get the info on to my form and to the IRS. Subsequent to talking to the customer person, in talking to some friends, I was told that I could enterthe data onto the forms. A word about that would have been nice. Also, an instruction manual would also be nice. Some of the error messages I received said form boxes on the work sheets were empty when they were not.

I use it for 2 returns, mine and my mother's. I do not like that the regular version does not allow an entry into the paid preparer line. Although I am not a paid preparer in doing my mother's return, since I am a CPA I am required to enter my name in that line. This will cause issues in the future when the rules that say paid preparer returns must be electronically filed start getting enforced, as I will continue to just put a sticker over "self-prepared" and mail her return in, along with an explanation that I really do not fall into the paid preparer category and the software does not allow the option of tranmitting with info in that field. I do not plan on buying the much more expensive Paid Preparer software just for 1 return. I suggest Turbo Tax change their policy in the future to allow for the paid preparer field to be filled in, but just charge a fee for transmittal of such returns, or charge a fee after a certain number of such returns are sent by the purchaser of the software.

In my search for customer service, finding a contact number was even a challenge. Finally reached, during my phone call, and after the tech agreed that returning my product to the store was probley the best next step, she mentioned they were having trouble because not everyone had the microsoft network 3.5 on their computers. I wrote it down, went the MS and downloaded it for free and it took hours for the T.T. updates to download before I was able to get my (included w/ purchase) state program. So I hope this feed bck helps someone else who might be having the same trouble I had. Turbo Tax has always been great in the past so I was extremely frustrated, to the point of buying a popular competator's program. I tried one more time with T.T. just because it had always been easier to use and understand than the competator. I sure hope there is better communication and improvements made to install all the supportive programs to make Turbo Tax the same user friendly product it had always been.

Turbo Tax is very easy to use. It's almost too easy, as it does all the calculations and form entries for you without you getting the opportunity to see the results of your entries. If you're determined you can get to view the forms as you progress, but if you just follow along you don't see the forms until the end. I personally like a little feedback to assure me that I'm making the correct entries. The only issue I had with the actual software was when I made more than one deductable contribution to the same organization, I had to re-enter the name and address information (unless it's a periodic contribution). No big problem, I just added another contribution sheet, but it would be nice to be able to use a drop-down or have a way to duplicate the organizations information on a second sheet or include more than one contribution on the same sheet. Turbo Tax has definitely improved over the years I've been using it and I haven't encountered a problem in so long that I can't remember.

We've used TurboTax for years, but trying to complete our return this year has been very frustrating. There was no prompt to enter our 529 college contribution, and a call to TurboTax phone support was not helpful. I finally found the key line by opening the State Return and literally reviewing line-by-line until I finally found it. NO mention of 529 in the program's help documentation or online help system. In every year past we've always been automatically asked by TurboTax to enter this information - so I can't fathom why this was left out of the question flow this year (would have cost us several hundred dollars in lost tax credit if I hadn't figured out where to enter the information manually). This is irritating enough to seriously consider a REAL accountant for once for our 2010 return rather than deal with TurboTax again. For the $60 to buy the software, completely useless built-in and live tech support, AND cost to e-file in New York, we're probably better off with a real person.

Turbo Tax Deluxe certainly beats doing taxes by hand. It is better than last year because it is easy to switch between "step-by-step" and the forms. Overall, this is a good experience. Unfortunately, the E-filing experience took my impression back a couple steps. All of a sudden, Turbo Tax started coming up with more errors that needed to be corrected and then refused to accept the corrections! The corrections would not be taken at what was literally the final screen -- which insisted that it put the dashes in the wrong spots -- but were taken when I figured out that I could go back to an earlier screen. The experience of being Done, and then the surprise of Not being done and having to figure out a workaround, was most unpleasant. The pop-up windows on each line could also be improved. These generally provide entirely unhelpful information. Because one often wonders "why," help in the pop-ups to interpret and validate the correct entry into the IRS data grinder would be helpful.

I've been using Turbotax exclusively since 1999. I am a former VITA trained tax assistant. Next year, I'd like to see in a side window, the actual form or worksheet that relates to the interview. The part where questions ask about employment at home was troubling, becausse it didn't seem to adequately address people who telecommute, where it seemd to assume people working at home were running a business from home. In our case, there are hours logged at home because the employer prefers or requires work away from the site due to contract concerns. There are wages earned at home that are not offsetting business profits. The program needs to do a better job with hobby income; many people are buying and selling on line through sites like eBay or Craig's List, and this income/expense was not adequately addressed. People generally do not need Premier to file mutual fund account actions. The interview could have helped with IRAs better than it did. Seems like prior year software was more indepth.
