Skype with $3 a month unlimited US/Canada might works if need more than 100 minutes per month. However any VoIP services will not be as clear as mobile service voice quality. I am just testing this out to see if this plan is keeper or not.

Can watch YouTube, while I will be lucky to view my emails.
The upload/download speed runs from 0.01- 0.03 Mb.
Unless T-Mobile can increase this sorry state of their phone

In order for you to get this plan you need a new activation from Tmobile. That means you have to buy an Activation Kit, get it from Amazon.com for $3. After you receive this kit, you must activate new phone number on tmobile.com. DO NOT Call them or you will not be able to pick this plan. After putting all the info from activation kit and IMEI # from ANY tmobile phone, it will prompt you to pick the plan that you want, pick this plan. Then it will provide you with the new phone number. If you get some kind of message from tmobile saying that they are processing you request and blah blah blah, DO NOT call them, Try again or pick a different area code for your new number. It took me 3 times before I got my new number. After you get this plan you can either pay be credit card there or buy this card from walmart.com and get it in the email. Also for unlimited calls in the US you can get skype calling for $3 a month voice over ip. Works great, I love my new and cheap PLAN.

If you're like me and you want the best but cheapest plan, and you don't require a lot of talk time (I use FaceTime and Whatsapp calls mostly to call my friends and family so I don't need unlimited minutes),
then I highly recommend this plan for you!
First you have to get the T-mobile SIM card, if you don't already have one (on Amazon it's much cheaper than the T-mobile website).
Then purchase this plan from Walmart and get the codes on your email. This part is quick and easy.
Go to the T-mobile website to activate your new SIM, and choose this plan.
Apply codes from your email and viola!

Works Great for existing Tmobile customers

I read all the reviews on this site and on the internet to make sure that if I purchased this that I could transfer my existing post-paid Tmobile phone number to this pre-paid type of account. I must say that I successfully did just that back on August 9.
All you have to do is
a) have a tmobile phone or any unlocked phone
b) have a brand new sim kit that hasn't been activated
c) purchase this card (do it earlier in the week so you won't have to wait for customer service)
d) ensure that your current Tmobile number is no longer under contract
Once you have the items above, follow the instructions on the sim activation kit and activate the sim card. You will receive a new phone number. You won't have to put the new sim into your phone to activate it. After you activate the sim card, call Tmobile and ask for the Prepaid customer service. Tell them you want to transfer your post-paid phone number to your prepaid sim card, replacing the sim card's temporary number. They will first check to make sure you're not still on contract. Then they will make the switch for you. You should then register for a new my-tmobile account based on your old number. The switch takes about 24 hours for which both the new and old sim cards will work. I just put the new sim card in and used that immediately after my call with Tmobile.
p.s. I just attempted to buy two more of these prepaid cards from Walmart 8/20. I successfully placed the orders but within 10 minutes Walmart canceled the orders citing that they couldn't process the transaction. No matter how many different credit cards I used or how many Paypal accounts I used, all the orders kept getting cancelled. So I went to Amazon.com and found two cards. They worked perfectly.

5. YES! I had been told that NO you cannot use it without it counting against your minutes. Today I spent a great deal of time on the phone with tmobile (12/22/12). They advised me that if your phone does wi fi calling, it does NOT count against your minutes. I also found an article online stating that Tmobile doesn't deduct minutes.

6. I was informed that WiFi calls are counted against your 100 minutes. If you are on a regular monthly payment plan with a T-Mobile WiFi enabled phone then they are not counted against your minutes.

7. If you get a google voice number and have hangouts and use the hangouts dialer, it does not count against your minutes.

8. If you assign and choose a separate phone number in Google Voice (now, linked to Hangouts) for WiFi/data calls, that is different from your own T-Mobile number...then NO. The minutes will not be taken and counted against the 100min of this $30 5GB T-Mobile prepaid plan.

1. No. If you are already on a T-Mobile prepaid plan, you CANNOT transfer to this plan. If you do not plan to purchase a T-Mobile phone from Walmart, and only Walmart, you cannot use this plan.

2. Hmm... interesting. I chatted online with T-Mobile customer service twice. One guy told me that I can get this plan online and switch to it even if I already have a pay-as-you-go at t-mobile, the other told me that I can get it but need to purchase an activation kit at walmart. However, neither of them told me it was impossible. Could someone clarify this?

4. you can. buy the activation kit but do not activate it online. call the number and talk to customer support. tell them you have an exsting number and you wish to move to the walmart plan using the activation key you have. it tkes 48 hours for the transfer.

5. You can buy the kit but you will not be able to keep the old phone # and you will not be able to transfer the balance from your old plan. My advice is to buy the kit, but do not activate the day before your old plan is going to expired.

6. I had a different pre-paid plan with T-Mobile and successfully switched to this plan (which I love!), keeping my former phone number in the process with help from T-Mobile customer service. I'd bought an iPhone 5s meant for T-Mobile use from the Apple Store online, which I'm using with this plan (didn't buy a phone at Walmart).

3. To do that you have to go through tmobile. They do offer a $30 plan it is for 1500 talk and text with 30mb of data. Hope this helps you
