I won't buy any other kind of litter, if it works do not change it. I have 1 cat and her litter has to be changed twice a month. It(the box) is cleaned several times a day and clumping litter is the only way to go. One important thing to know is the light weight kind they just came out with is a joke. My cat and I neither one like it. It does not mask the bad smells at all. Had to change the entire box within 6 hours of putting the light weight kind in.

While not the best litter we've ever used (Tidy Cats Small Spaces is the best!), this one is acceptable to all of our kitties, including a very finicky Siamese (he will not use a stinky box!). This is one of a couple litters we use if our preferred litter is not available. The odor control is very good, the clumps are good and easy to scoop out and it's a good value for the price. Compared to the Tidy Cats Long Lasting Odor control formula I would say the clumps are less solid, but the odor control is a bit better. Small Spaces is better on both counts though. The only "problem" I've had with this litter is sometimes the cats will dig down deep enough in the box leaving only a thin layer of litter, which makes a bit of a gooey mess when they use it because of the over-saturation. I doubt this will be a problem to most people though, just be sure you keep the litter 3-4" deep in the box as per the directions and it works fine, as long as your kitties don't decide they have to dig to the very bottom of the pan to wee.

For years I was buying instant action because it had little no scent and low dust but them someone with the foolish notion over at tidy cats thought we all might like to smell some pungent chemicals. If you want to sell more than just one last container of tidy cats action litter to me and a lot of other customers please develop or redevelop a cat litter that is clearly labeled, "UNSCENTED." I am returning this lousy product today and not buying anymore until your product realizes that you can not make these changes and expect the customer is just going to suddenly fall in love with more unwanted chemical fragrances in their homes and on their pets. Please do NOT add chemicals and fragrance to at least one of your products. Then once tidy cats has accomplished that in bold letters on the front of the products clearly label it that way. (Believe me, this will draw more customers than I bet you are getting now. The smell of this so called "New Improved product" is so annoying that I can't wait until I return this stuff today.

I've been a loyal customer since 1996 and have been very satisfied with the scent and performance of Tidy Cats litter until now. The new scent of the litter is overpowering and does not perform well at all! I'm sitting here in my kitchen and all I can smell is the overpowering and acrid stench of my cat's urine emanating from his litter box in the bathroom. I have two of the biggest litter boxes I could find set up for him with 3 inches of litter in each and scoop multiples times per day. The old formulation and scent was never a problem with this setup but the new scent and formulation fails horribly!!! I've read the negative reviews of other loyal customers but it seems to be falling on deaf ears at Purina corporate. I too will be looking for a replacement for my beloved Tidy Cats litter this week!!! :(

    • A. Not very frequently. I use the Tidy Cat Deodorizing product (sifts out from a blue & yellow colored canister) every time I scoop and replenish with fresh litter. I think this product really aids in odor control. You can buy it at Walmart. I just hardly ever have to totally renew the litter but sometimes I have to replace with more than at other times - all depends on how much there is to scoop.

    • A. I usually clean out the pan every day to keep down odors and to keep the pan usable for the cats of which there are 3. I use 2 large pans and don't usually need to totally empty and wash them more than every three months. The main thing is to clear the pans daily to prevent overuse in a given area. If I don't do this, it can be like removing wet clay. In other words, it gets very heavy and messy.

    • A. We live in a small apartment, so we scoop more than usual. Any of the Purina cat litters work well in small spaces. They control odor, last long, and eliminate a lot of tracking.

    • A. I usually do it once every week. I only have one cat and I'm really picky when it comes to smell. I'm afraid I'll be that person that when you walk into someones home and it smells like a litterbox. I think it all depends on how much your cat uses the litterbox. I only have one cat and she uses it about 2-3 times a day. I know a person that has three cats and cleans his about once a week and when he comes to work he smells like a litterbox.

    • A. Well, that just depends on how many cats you have. We have 4 and it is usually about once a month when I completely dump and renew. I just go by how the litter looks, like when it is looking dirty and really used.

    • A. It depends on how many cats you have, Even with multiple cats using the box, I don't have to dump more often than about every 3 weeks. I add a little every few days. I have one cat who doesn't get along with others & so has his own apartment with his own box. I don't have to dump that one for a couple of months. I only add every couple of weeks & then not much.

    • A. This odor is so strong it hurts my lungs when I pour it and it was irritating every time anyone used it. My 8 wk old kittens started using the mats outside the litter boxes. I have a multi cat household and had to move this litter to an area of the house I don't frequent often until I run out of it.

    • A. I agree re heavily perfumed litter, i.e., the Glade scented - which I have never bought and never will. The other varieties of Tidy Cat are much less scented and compared to other brands, I like the scents better. I lean toward a less stronger scent, also.
