this force feedback wheel for the Xbox One is significantly more expensive than the force feedback wheel i got for my Xbox 360 years ago. However, everything about this wheel is much sturdier, and of a higher quality than the wheel for the previous generation's hardware. for one, it supports a full 900 degrees of rotation, and the actual STRENGTH of the feedback is much greater than last generation's wheel as well. if you're used to driving in FORZA 5 with the gamepad, there WILL be a learning curve, and for a short while, you won't do very well while you're getting used to using the wheel. HOWEVER, it will most definitely pay off in the long run, because your lap times will be falling as soon as you get used to it, and you'll find you'll beat your old records set with the gamepad by a significant margin, with times NOT POSSIBLE without the steering wheel. if you're a hardcore driving sim fanatic, and live for games like FORZA 5, GRAN TURISMO, or the upcoming PROJECT C.A.R.S., and you have the cash, you owe it to yourself to get this wheel. just don't expect to sit it in your lap... the feedback is far too strong for that. it needs to be bolted to a table or to a sim rig to be used properly.
I am fairly new to the racing game scene and to be honest was a bit hesitant to purchase a 'top tier' racing wheel but I couldn't be happier with my 458 Italia TX Wheel on my Xbox. Once I purchased the game play and feel is so much more exciting with this wheel and I feel bad for my sports games which will probably be collecting a bit of dust as I continue playing N4S: Rivals. I can easily navigate game and Xbox menus with the controls right on the wheel....I though this might be difficult but was wrong. Anyways I am stoked
I enjoy simulated racing. I spent many hours racing Forza 4, and really looked forward to Forza 5. I didn't really want to spend nearly $600 for a new XBOX One and game just to do this, but I finally gave in and ordered it. The first thing I learned was the my Fanatec wheel wasn't compatible with XBOX One. Well, I guess I should have researched that first! So I looked at compatible wheels, and this Thrustmaster Tx is the only one currently on the market as far as I know. Mad Catz is suppose to release one soon, but I have 4 broken Mad Catz wheels sitting in a pile - they were for the XBOX 360 and cheaply made. I read the reviews on this Thrustmaster Tx and thought OMG, 2 out of every 3 wheels will be rendered useless in a short period of time if not immediately when the box is opened. Not having any other choices, I decided to buy this from a retailer who I know would handle returns well (Walmart), and I bought protection for 3 years for the no hassle return benefit. When I received it, it was well packaged and fairly simple to put together. Then it sat for a while, because I was quite frankly worried about updating the firmware (required) that was one of the known killers of the wheel. Finally, I decided to go ahead and do it. You need to download the firmware and upgrade the wheel from a computer. After I got the wheel to be recognized by my laptop, the firmware upgrade was quick and without issue. I didn't make any changes from the default as I had read others had done. I hooked it and fired up Forza 5... Awesome! I have now raced 61 races and logged 5 1/4 hours on the wheel and no failures. Maybe I was just one of the lucky ones, but so far so good. The wheel feels good in your hands, and I actually like it better than my Fanatec wheel because of the rubberized texture that helps keep a firm grip. Also, if you race with the paddle shifters and manually clutch using the buttons, the "A" button is in a great position and I have no problems shifting. The FFB is realistic. I don't like the pedals, specifically the brake pedal. The brake pedal has no increased resistance as it is depressed as compared to the Fanatec brake pedal. The other problem with the pedal system, like most, unless you mount it, it will slide around on carpet - next buy, a new racing seat. The usb cable is too short, maybe 6'. It's hard to sit 6' from a large screen TV. Also, the wheel won't power up the XBOX ONE. I have to power the XBOX One first from the console, then the wheel. Lastly, I noticed that the fan built into the wheel was running well after I had shutdown the XBOX One from racing, it wasn't putting off any heat so I'm not sure why, but I simply unplug it now. For me all of these are minor, the wheel is working fine, and the only reason I gave it 4 stars is because of the pedal system which I feel is subpar compared to what I would expect considering the price range of the wheel. I read that they are suppose to release a 3 pedal set sometime in the future, maybe that will be better. I would buy another and I would recommend to a friend.
This review may be a little too negative, as I never actually got to use the wheel, but here's why… I ordered one wheel and a Forza racing seat with expedited shipping at the end of December. I received the wheel in two days but didn't get a chance to try for a few days. Upon unpacking, the wheel had a notice taped to it saying that it needed to have the firmware updated immediately before connecting to the Xbox. Ok, fine. I followed the instructions and everything seemed to go well. After the update was completed, I connected the wheel to the xbox and nothing happened. The xbox didn't recognize it at all. In fact, the controller power button on the wheel didn't light up, and if you pressed it, it prompted you to turn off the controller or the console. None of the other buttons on the wheel worked either. I did some research online and found out that there was a problem using the regular Xbox controllers at the same as the wheel. I tried everything that was suggested online to remedy this, but no luck. I resolved myself to the fact that the wheel was faulty. I ordered another wheel and received it the next day, luckily my racing seat was also set to be delivered on the same day, so I was excited to have the whole set up working. I received the new wheel, it was worse than the first, completely DOA. I couldn't get it to power up at all, my computer would not recognize it to update the firmware, just did nothing. I gave up and returned both of them. Unfortunately I would have to wait until the end of February to get a Mad Catz wheel, which is a considerable time away. I may actually order another one, hopefully the third time is the charm.
I purchased a brand new wheel and received a wheel that had clearly been previously opened that had a card reading “Certified Refurbished on Amazon” inside the box. The wheel did not function at all. I spend a couple of hours attempting to update firmware on the wheel, this was not successful. Seller initially tried to get me to pay return shipping on wheel until I challenged them on this. The issue has not been resolved yet.
For a $320 item and it broke in less then 4 months. NOT worth it!! Luckily, I bought the warranty to get my money back, but only received an ecard to Walmart!! Happy that I received my money back but I also purchased the extra warranty or I would have lost all of my money!!! Advise, dont ever make a big purchase from Walmart without the extra warranty or you will loose out!!
