I never used one before today. This is bigger then what it looks like in the picture. Bigger then you expect that is. Wide mouth. Easy to open/close. I filled it with boiling water, closed it and waited a few minutes. It heated the inside perfectly. I warmed the spaghettio's in the microwave then went to poor it in. This only holds 3/4th's of a can of spaghettio's. That was a disappointment. I only have one kid so... I ordered a second thermos... So I can do hot in one, cold in another for the same school lunch. But I can see a whole bunch of possibilities with this. Hot/warm nuggets, hamburger patties, spaghetti, casserole, star noodle soups, even cold salads, fruits, and veggies... It does work... Just wish it was just a little larger to hold a whole can of something. In the future, I am going to have to save 1/2 the can somehow. :-/ But if you want a way to safely bring hot/cold lunches for your kids to school this is it. :-) Perfect solution. I wrote her name in permanent marker so I hope that stays... I wish would of discovered this much much earlier...
Perfect size for school lunch
This is a wonderful Thermos food jar! It's a great size for taking soup, chili, warm leftovers for school lunch, which is 3 hours into the school day. Also took it with me to an outdoor event and it kept my tea nice and hot. To prep, heat water to boiling (in a fantastic electric kettle that heats up fast) and pour into clean jar. While I'm prepping the rest of lunch, the hot water heats the interior of the Thermos. Just before heading out the door, I pour the water back in the kettle (to use next time) and fill the Thermos with lunch. Super easy! It also cleans really well, nice wide opening. I ordered two and will get two more with fall/winter ahead.
Great Product for School Lunches
I bought this for my 2nd grade son's school lunches. I followed others' advice and fill the Thermos with hot water for about 5 minutes to heat it up before putting the food in. When my son has lunch 6 hours later, his food is still warm. It doesn't leak, and he is able to open it without difficulty. The size is perfect for his lunch box and the right portion for an elementary school child.
I NEVER write reviews, but I thought so much of this little Thermos that I just had to! My 5 year old started Kindergarten this year, and while I have become pretty creative in sending him to school with a variety of lunches that didn't include the same old sandwich everyday, I was getting tired of sending him with cold lunches all the time. I received this Thermos and the very first day I made him macaroni and cheese. To my surprises, it stayed quite warm all the way until lunchtime. I've since sent him with chicken and rice, spaghetti, and soup.....all have remained warm and yummy!
Thermos work great. I Did as someone suggested and filled it with hot water while I was warming up my kids spaghettios. It is a 10 ounce thermos so an entire spaghettios can will not fit, but that is okay because my 7 year old can not eat an entire can of spaghetios anyway. Spaghetios are 15 oz. cans by the way. Hope this helps. I also got another 16 oz. thermo and it works just as good.
Bought this thermos just to try it out. I use it to put cooked meals in for my kids for school. They tell me that at lunch the food is still almost hot! That's exactly what I needed! I want my kids to have healthy hot meals everyday. They don't like school lunches. Now they eat more at lunch time and best of all I know what they are eating. I feel relieved at a peace. #healthykidslearnbetter
I like how it looks but...
This food jar looks really good and keeps food warm for reasonable time. However, its size is too small for adult/teenager (for lunch) and the lid is too hard to open for little kids. I wish they would either make one that's a little be larger or has a lid that's easy to open.
Ad description and product label are different
I will update after I actually use it. But, I JUST picked it up and on the label it says it keeps food hot for 5 hours and cold for 7 hours. The AD says keeps food hot for 7 and cold for 9. My lunch break is 6 hours after my work shift starts so that's why I ordered this. Not sure yet which time frame is accurate until I use it. Just wanted to give anyone ordering this a heads up.
Not good for keeping foods hot until lunchtime
I needed a container that kept my food hot for about 4 to 4 1/2 hours. This did not. First, I tried soup which was close to boiling when I put it in the container, and 4 1/2 hours later it was "cold". I thought that might have been because it was a thin liquid. Then I tried chili which was close to boiling when I put it in and 4 1/2 hours later it was "cold". For the price and shipping cost of this product, it was worth taking a chance, but I just don't want others to order it and be disappointed as well.
