I went for five stars,...
I went for five stars, because I loved this book as much as I love Garden Spells. It had all the magical characteristics as Garden Spells, but a different but equally engaging story line. When you first start the book you are introduced to a sad and Lonely Josey who happens upon a woman in her closet. The story begins to intertwine several characters who live in the fictional ski resort town of Bald Slope. Light and fun and made for a great summer read, although I think it would be equally as...more I went for five stars, because I loved this book as much as I love Garden Spells. A sweet, somewhat unex...
A sweet, somewhat unexpected story about Josey, the perfect example of a loving daughter, caring for her overbearing mother, who comes home one day to find a disreputable woman hiding out in her closet. This untimely arrival heralds the beginning of many other unlooked for changes in Josey's life including a new friend, relationships and family revaltions. I was totally rooting for Josey and loved Chole (the new friend) espeically. I loved that books were 'drawn' to her and that they kept showing up to offer advice. Allen's storytelling is wonderful and constantly infused with little touches of magic - like it's a part of everyone's daily life. Such a fun, great book, my only complaint was that I wish it had been longer!

Another amazing title ...

Another amazing title by Sarah Addison Allen!! The ending completely suprised me - I did not expect it at all! Allen's character development is phenomenal, the characters are very realistic, so it's easy to get attached to them! Can't wait to read more by her!

Once again, Sarah Addi...

Once again, Sarah Addison Allen steals your heart and tickles your brain! Introduced to this author through the Early Reviewers program, I cannot imagine not reading everything she has written. This book takes the reader into the world of self-consciousness, labels and family expectations. The characters go on their respective and intersecting journeys to freedom from all of the above. With enough truth and grit that we have all experienced in one form or another and enough of a magical touch, Allen has managed to create another amazing and unique work of art. Can't wait for the next book!

This book was like a c...

This book was like a confection. I read it all in one sitting, and I loved how realistic all the relationships seemed. I was a little bit horrified that Josey would accept a woman appearing in her closet--maybe because of all my city living. Chloe and her persuasive books was just a heavenly touch, if only I could have such an affliction! Lovely read.

Sarah Addison Allen ha...

Sarah Addison Allen has a special talent for immediately drawing you in, and putting you under her spell. "The Sugar Queen" (as are all of her books) is a real treat. Her characters are genuine and relatable. Her stories are unique and full of surprises. I read her books one-after-the-other. She is indeed "that good". I anxiously look forward to her next book, "The Peach Keeper", due out in March 2011.
