I went for five stars, because I loved this book as much as I love Garden Spells. It had all the magical characteristics as Garden Spells, but a different but equally engaging story line. When you first start the book you are introduced to a sad and Lonely Josey who happens upon a woman in her closet. The story begins to intertwine several characters who live in the fictional ski resort town of Bald Slope. About This Item
Josey Cirrini is sure of three things: winter is her favorite season, she’s a sorry excuse for a Southern belle, and sweets are best eaten in the privacy of her closet. For while Josey has settled into an uneventful life in her mother’s house, her one consolation is the stockpile of sugary treats and paperback romances she escapes to each night. . . . Until she finds her closet harboring Della Lee Baker, a local waitress who is one part nemesis—and two parts fairy godmother. With Della Lee’s tough love, Josey’s narrow existence quickly expands. She even bonds with Chloe Finley, a young woman who is hounded by books that inexplicably appear when she needs them—and who has a close connection to Josey’s longtime crush. Soon Josey is living in a world where the color red has startling powers, and passion can make eggs fry in their cartons. And that’s just for starters.
Brimming with warmth, wit, and a sprinkling of magic, here is a spellbinding tale of friendship, love—and the enchanting possibilities of every new day.

Another amazing title by Sarah Addison Allen!! The ending completely suprised me - I did not expect it at all! Allen's character development is phenomenal, the characters are very realistic, so it's easy to get attached to them! Can't wait to read more by her!

Once again, Sarah Addison Allen steals your heart and tickles your brain! Introduced to this author through the Early Reviewers program, I cannot imagine not reading everything she has written. This book takes the reader into the world of self-consciousness, labels and family expectations. The characters go on their respective and intersecting journeys to freedom from all of the above. With enough truth and grit that we have all experienced in one form or another and enough of a magical touch, Allen has managed to create another amazing and unique work of art. Can't wait for the next book!

This book was like a confection. I read it all in one sitting, and I loved how realistic all the relationships seemed. I was a little bit horrified that Josey would accept a woman appearing in her closet--maybe because of all my city living. Chloe and her persuasive books was just a heavenly touch, if only I could have such an affliction! Lovely read.

Sarah Addison Allen has a special talent for immediately drawing you in, and putting you under her spell. "The Sugar Queen" (as are all of her books) is a real treat. Her characters are genuine and relatable. Her stories are unique and full of surprises. I read her books one-after-the-other. She is indeed "that good". I anxiously look forward to her next book, "The Peach Keeper", due out in March 2011.
