Deal of the year
I came very close to getting a Samsung QLED for $1500 when I came across the TCL UHD in some reviews. The picture is stunning and the Roku interface is so simple even my wife -- who tends to find electronic controls difficult -- can navigate pretty easily. But the price was the clincher. The two day delivery was the icing on this cake.

Disappointed
Great reviews online - CNET, PC Mag, Etc. Not good for me. Too many issues with the picture not keeping up with motion. Example: watch just in front of a person’s head as the road goes by in a car. Looks like a force field has been activated. Too distracting for me! Roku is cool. In the end, not cool enough for me.

Very satisfied

So far I think it's a good TV for the money. Great black detail and accurate colors without doing a lot of fine tuning. No banding issues that I can see when watching mostly sports. I haven't run any video samples to check for it because if I can't see banding while watching regular stuff, I'm happy.

This TV is fine.

Good TV. Pretty construction. Good picture. Easy tv to use. Very simple remote. Wife and I both like it. Would buy again, but hope that we don't need to.

Beautiful picture. Some reviews mentioned glare and lines across the screen. I have seen no such flaws or any other issues in the three days of using this TCL55R617. I haven't tried the tv sound. I purchased the Roku wireless speakers through Roku. These are a great addition.

Amazing tv with one small flaw!

This tv speaks for itself, literally no draw backs except one IMO, the VA panels has vertical banding, so in vary bright white scenes like a snowy mountain you can cleary see lines in the picture. It is vary distracting, I angled my tv slightly backwards and that helped, but it is a good thing that I mostly watch dark/horror type shows which look phenomenal on this tv. Just keep in mind that the "panel lottery" so to speak plays into this display.

Great Picture, Limited Controls

Great picture quality but limited sound outputs and remote sensor location can be a problem. Audio output function is limited so you can't have two speaker sets plugged in at once, which is a problem if you have extra speakers you only want to use for music specials or movies with elaborate sound effects. The TV's built-in volume control doesn't work with the optical audio output, so you'll need another remote to control volume if you connect your soundbar or other speakers to the optical output. If you have more than one external speaker or need to use headphones and speakers simultaneously you'll need to add a headphone amplifier/splitter or a digital converter/splitter to give you multiple speaker outputs. Remote sensors are in the middle of the bottom frame, which can be a problem if your soundbar or speakers are in front of the TV. You may need to move your soundbar behind or underneath the TV. External speakers may also need to be moved further away from the bottom center. On a positive note, I didn't notice any problem with viewing angles other than the laws of geometry and physics. In a 10-foot wide room, I don't see any noticeable loss in image quality when sitting in a corner chair at a 45 degree angle, but the physical size and angle isn't very comfortable for extended viewing. Image quality is great when I sit on the couch right in front of the TV. I'd say 55 inches really is the maximum for comfortable viewing in a 10-12 foot room and may be uncomfortable if you spend a lot of time watching from a corner chair.

The TV was the second one we ordered. The first one arrived with a cracked screen. The package again had only one strap on the carton the same as the first TV that we ordered. The tape on the top had been opened. We removed the carton from the TV in the store to verify the screen wasn't cracked. It wasn't! A piece of triangular urethane fell out of the box during the unpacking in the store. I didn't know what it was but later found out it went on the foot. I thought I had it but never found it again. After unpacking the set at home we were short two AAA batteries that should of been the bag with the remote. There was a loose screw in the bottom of the package. It went in the back panel so I decided to check the other screws in the back and found some loose on both sides. The middle screws checked O.K. We hung the TV on the wall so only used the feet briefly until we could hang it. We like the TV so far and it has lots of capabilities which will take some time to explore. I need to download the operating instructions and read them so we will know exactly how the screen adjustments and features work. So far everything is working as expected. It has a great picture and we aren't using it's full capability yet.

Good Value 55"

Excellent picture(but I'm also coming from an old 1080p Samsung), no banding on my 55" but some dirty screen after testing it on Youtube. Connects fast to my Wifi and is very quick at turning on and establishing a connection usually within 5 seconds. Never had any problems with buffering through Amazon, Hulu, Netflix, Vudu, Pluto TV, etc. I can only assume I won the panel lottery compared to other pics. Was easy to wall mount and looks great. Sound isn't too bad but isn't that great either. Works perfect for what I bought it for. Couldn't be more pleased.

Hello, Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback. There are options available to adjust the picture settings to better fit your personal preference. You can access the Options menu on the TV by pressing the asterisk (*) button on your remote while watching content. Additionally, you can access expert picture settings by downloading the free Roku mobile app on a smartphone or tablet. The Roku mobile app works as a remote and allows you to access additional features like voice search, private listening, advanced picture settings, and more. Hope this helps & happy viewing! Sound crackles after 2 months; bad customer serv.

TV has a great picture and for a few weeks I enjoyed watching all my HD programming on it, owned a Vizio M-series which was good but this was better, even with only 60 hz refresh rate. Roku also very nice, smooth interface and had just about every app I wanted. Didn't have the vertical banding that many talked about but there was slight shading in the corners; however, it was so slight that I only noticed it if I looked for it. Sound wasn't anything to write home about like most smart TVs but was acceptable. Main issue with it was on certain apps like Amazon Prime you have to turn it to 100 and still not loud enough then with cable box or PS4 about 20 is too loud and it takes almost 30 seconds to turn it down on remote. Annoying but could live with it. However, after about 10 weeks started to hear a crackle from I think the right speaker of the TV. Sounds like the speaker is shaking. At first it happened only on certain TV series like the OA then on certain Youtube videos. Now, almost 4 months after purchase its on more series and apps, to varying degrees. Tried all the fixes recommended by googling then called TCL customer service. Not only were they not helpful at all but were almost combative. This was when the problem first started so the rep kept on emphasizing the fact that it occurred only on certain programs and apps and stating that if a technician came he wouldn't be able to fix anything. Maybe its true but the rep's attitude was confrontational and seemed like his main goal was to discourage me from putting in a service repair ticket and saving TCL the cost of a visit. And at first the customer service rep said he's heard about this issue "many times" and then later when I repeated that he contradicted himself and said the number of times is "on one hand". Then when I started to call him out on his circular and antagonistic demeanor (and I rarely ever do this to customer service reps) he just hung up on me. A couple of other issues have popped up recently: a week ago, as the TV was on and on the Home menu and my remote was laying on the carpet in front of me, all my apps just disappeared. I spent the next day re-installing most of my apps and the next day all the apps just as mysteriously re-appeared, with the remote laying right in front of me. Also, the remote is Wifi and before you could angle any which way and it would work. now it has to be pointed within a certain angle at the TV. Irksome, especially considering the fact the only difference between the R-617 and R-615, a $30 difference, is the remote. Luckily bought this from Walmart and started a return within 90 days and Walmart will pick it up for free next week. A shame as I really liked the picture and the Roku and dislike the hassle of a return and buying a new TV. However, on top of the problems I mentioned (most of all the sound crackiling) I just don't have faith that this TV will last more than a year or 2, at least to th point where any problems I'd have would not make me want to buy another TV. Won't be buying TCL again.

1. The buttons located on the lower portion of the TCL Roku Remote are our partner buttons. They are designated at a factory level with some variation, and cannot be reprogrammed. With this variation, we cannot guarantee what partner buttons may be on the remote. They are intended to be shortcut buttons to select streaming channels. Hope this helps!
