Setting up account was very difficult, not as described. Took 2.5 hrs including talking to 6 different people at T-Mobile. Installed software slowed my laptop to a crawl whether the device was plugged in or not. No joke- took more than twice as long just to boot up. After paying $35 (non-refundable) for 60 days service and 2.5 Gb of data (minimum available) I discovered coverage was lousy. No reception at my house, 2 bars at work, which provided approximately the same Internet experience as a 56K modem. Drove all over Washington state for three days with this thing and never saw more than 2 bars of signal. T-Mobile's slogan should be "If we cared for the customer we'd send them some place better."

Good for an alternative to seeking hot spots

I post this as a cautionary tale to those who might see this to low cost alternative to broadband in the home. I need to set a desktop in an apartment where I wasn't going to connect to cable for tv, and so I thought this to be a good alternative to cable broadband, just for checking email, Facebook, and such. I live an area with a pretty strong 4G signal, so this sounded pretty reasonable. The set up, while not exactly "plug and play," wasn't too difficult, especially with the help of their customer service. The first thing I noticed is that 3.5 Gb hardly lasts a month, let alone two months, even with moderate use, and this service doesn't just slow down your speed, as its competitor's cellphone service does; it shuts you down flat. And getting it restarted requires visiting WM to get another card, or trudging through a rather convoluted website...when it is not down "for future improvements," to purchase another pass. So I had to go to 5Gb, and watch my usage a little more carefully. A second thing: while T-Mobile seems to welcome WM customers with open arms, they do provide another hurdle, should you make through your second month without running out of data: their sophisticated accounting system can't quite figure out how to automatically withdraw payments unless you switch to their monthly payment plan. Thus, if you are getting Walmart's two-month plan, you either got to buy cards from the store, or crank out a payment through the above-mentioned website. Bottom line: if you do a lot of traveling away from hot-spots, but under T-Mobile's 3/4G dome, this service provides a pretty good, reasonable, and secure broadband service for your laptop or PC. However, if you are contemplating downloading streaming movies at these amazing speeds, may I recommend renting DVDs instead? It will probably be cheaper in the long run. And if you think you can use this as cheaper alternative to wired broadband in your home...forget about it. I eventually switch to a basic cable Internet service...much cheaper and more versatile, IMO.

Customer has been confirmed to have purchased the item from Walmart.

Purchased the 2.0 Laptop Stick end of February and I like it, enjoy it have an easier access to the internet because the 2.0 stick was more in my budget instead of paying 100.00 for a broadband box to sit in front of the computer & will strongly recommend this to let the people know that you can take this anywhere with you without use of a .WIFI, which by the way will not work well.

Barely works, time on minute card worked for 13 days only. T-mobile censors what web sites you log onto, EX: it would not let me log onto the 'intimates' section of the ladies clothing store that I purchase clothes from (underwear, etc.) I am going to ditch my T-mobile phone also.

I am very pleased with my stick. I purchased from a Walmart Store instead of online and I paid $79 instead of the deal you get purchasing online. I work 5 days a week, 8 hours a day so this is very economical. The deal Walmart has with T-Mobile is great. I pay $35 for 2 months of service with their top up cards. I am thinking about purchasing another one for backup.

  • A. When you register your laptop and purchase purchase the hotspot (T-Mobile refill card) you will be given a phone number as your account number and you can as well connect to mobile cell carrier too.

  • A. No. You can set up an account with a service contract or pay as you go. However, the account set-up is geared entirely toward cell phone owners with contracts. The first thing they ask is what's you phone number. After the account is set up they will assign the device a phone number- I have no idea why or what would happen if you call this number.

  • A. Yes, a SIM card is included. It is a punch-out on a piece of cardboard. It must be installed and activated for the Jet Stick to work. When I bought mine the SIM card was already installed, but I couldn't get it to work. Turns out the Jet Stick was previously owned, the SIM card had been activated then deactivated when the customer returned it. Since Wal-Mart couldn't get a new SIM card for it they had to exchange the device for a new one.

  • A. Yes, the SIM card is included (an optional micro-SD card is not.) Just don't panic if it seems to be missing, with only an empty identification card in the box. The directions shows how to put the SIM card into the devise, but sometimes it comes already installed.
