    Nice to Have

I have had this device for over two years and have found it very handy. I did not want to pay for data tethering on my phone every month and T-mobile service works well in my area. When I first got it I was able to purchase the prepaid cards and then call the phone number on it to activate as needed. I would leave the cards in a drawer until I needed them for traveling or a couple of times when the power or cable went out. Recently T-mobile changed everything and now I am not even sure how the prepaid cards work but I know I lost money trying to figure it out. Now it seems like you have to go through this big process online to register and set up. When I hadn't used my device in several months it ended up giving the device a new phone number. Be careful about the prepaid cards now and read the reviews on them before purchasing any. Now as far as the device itself I really like it. It is the size of a small cell phone. I have gone in fairly far away areas and only lost its signal a couple of times. I used it with a 7 inch tablet as a GPS. In my experience a GB of data would be fine for a month of light use such as email, browsing and games. Video on the other hand is a problem. As an example I streamed a newscast for about half an hour and it was 350MB..yikes! The battery life is pretty good for its small size and recharges fairly quickly. Another plus is that it is way cheaper now than when I got it!

    it works for me

ill try to make this simple. On T-mobiles map, it says my brothers house is in a "partnered zone", which means internet is a no go. i bought this anything thinking why not, i could use the time at work encase it doesnt work where i need it to and then return it. now then, at my place of work, which is in the 4g area, it worked well, did a speed test and it got around 10Mb/s down and 2Mb/s up...which isnt bad for one of these things, i was expecting worse. Now when i actually tried using it at my brothers house, it was on the edge (E) for a while, which was to be expected, but then i placed it upstairs and i got 4g interwebs. on to other business, the device itself is small, basic and simple. i have no idea why it has a micro SD slot, no idea what it could use it for, maybe the text messages, i do not know. it also has an antenna port on the left side, it can be a pain to open and i think i found one on amazon for 20$ and will be experimenting with it soon. setting this thing up was easy, i let it charge up, turned it on, connected, made a tmobile account and that was basically it. IT DID NOT ASK FOR CREDIT CARD OR SSN! you dont have to renew, but you cant buy data and expect it to be available for a year, however, its pretty cheap, 10$ per gig. one small thing thats bothering me, it feels like im using more data than i should be.

Unusable - Strong signal does not insure quality

T-Mobile's coverage map, sales representative statements, tech support representative statements, and a strong 4G connection does not insure usable web speeds. After much trial and error together with excellent T-mobile tech support investigation(s), T-mobile acknowledged that in spite of a strong 4G wireless connection, the tower throughput/landline speed connection are relatively low and that poor throughput should be expected for that location. Used a leading web speed test to measure throughput. This site/test typically would not load or timed out. When the tests did complete, representative throughput was 50Kbps upload and 40Kbps download. Will attempt to return product.

This meets the need I had for mobile internet use

I bought this device at the Walmart store in Laredo,TX, as an over the road long haul truck driver I like it very much,I travel the lower 48 states and most of Canada. I wanted internet for my laptop and I was using the occassional rest area and a few other places that allow semi-trucks(and they are few..lol), for free wifi usage. Not always the best "free" signal at those places, but anyways I just wanted my own hotspot that would allow me some expanded usage, I didnt need internet connectivity everywhere I went, but just in the way of more coverage and for the convenience. Im an average user, I use it for checking my email, audio live listening to such as promotional/preaching audio, and it really doesnt consume a lot of data. I do watch an occasional YouTube video but most is for as I said. The only time I find it uses more is if you were to watch live streaming stuff which I really dont do that much or at all really,or if you were to watch a lot of video. I am pleased with this device as its the size of my non-smart phone and very compact, recharges really good, last me like 4 or 5 hrs if Im listening to like audio or internet browsing,or I have just left it plugged in like while I was at a motel recently while my truck was being serviced(motel had medioacre signal) It comes with 90days/5 GB when you buy it from Walmart store. The way I activated mine was I called the TMobile phone# on the card and the dude there was very pleasant and walked me thru installing the little sim card that comes with it and also they activated it for me, gave me some instructions for its use and boom I was immediatley able to use it. I told them I bought it directly in the Walmart store(its best to let them know that upfront,I told them twice I bought it directly in the Walmart store, just in case they might have missed that..lol)Then I called again a couple days later to ask how I see my usage etc, and the kind lady at TMobile helped me go to this site they use(http://mobile.hotspot/) and I set up my account with her assistance and reviewed how it works, and well its great...I can see my days I have left and review usage to date and even to the minute as your using it. You can keep this website window open after you have set up your account and logged in with your password, and see data usage as you use it. Its very easy to use. I dont need internet usage every place I go to, but it works well in several areas of the USA I travel in and I get 4G at some and 3G at others, the areas I get nothing is okay with me for my use, and Im always on the highway somewhere and it will come in a few miles up the road again. Again I dont require internet wifi service everywhere Im at but I find it works better than I thought, Im able to get on the internet with my laptop way more than I could before, its like night and day you might say. I havent bought a refill card yet but I like the 5G card I will probably just buy that again as that works best for my usage...I really only use more if my truck has to be serviced and Im using the internet more than I ever would after driving(lol..I just want to eat, exercise,a little social and go to bed after driving the legal hrs we can)..Anyways hope this helps someone here, I appreciate peoples reviews. Again buy this wifi hotspot device inside the physical Walmart store if at all possible, keep your receipt, and not all Walmart stores carry this TMobile Hotspot device(I know I go all over the country to all 48 states and even Canada)..but for the most part I find a good many of them do and those that do also have the refill cards. Im happy with it . It does not work in Canada, but of course I knew that before I bought it, I just use the free wifi truck stops when Im in Canada Provinces) Its a very economical way to get online and the mobility of it is great.

    A Very Pleasant Surprise

Had grown tired of the "free" wifi at my apartment complex. It was hit and miss and very slow Was looking for wifi access as well as something I could take with me when on the go. After much research, this was a less expensive option than tethering and paying for more data. To be honest, was concerned when I opened it and got it started. The display reminded me of something out of the early 90's. Was easy to set up and connect my devices. Have used over a week and have not had to reboot once. So far, this unit is spot on.
