Buy this, but be careful! (dealing with T-mobile)

This turned out to be a difficult purchase. 1st purchased the device and refill pass from Walmart online, everything went great! (December 2012). In January decided to get another refill pass ahead of time, purchase wouldn't go through, never found out why. (Tried twice). Then last week was running out of time, tried again and got the $35 pass emailed. HERE IS WHERE YOU MUST BE CAREFUL! The e-mail will give you a phone number to call to redeem the pass. DO NOT call this number. If you do T-mobile will credit your account with $35, then because your pass has expired charge you per megabyte. I had to add $10 to the T-mobile account ($10.60 with tax) to be able to purchase a 60-day 3.5 megabyte from T-moblile. Make sure you have a My T-Mobile account set up, buy your pass from Walmart.com and redeem it online. On the plus side, I learned that you get up to 364 days without a pass before your account (and device!) become extinct.

Had to create a review for this product, if you're thinking about buying this the first thing you have to do is go to the t-mobile website and load up the coverage map and put in the addresses you are planning to use this device at, if it displays light shades of green then this might not work the best for you so beware. You want to be in a strong 4G coverage area to get good speeds. Make sure you buy the hotspot device from Walmart and not a T-Mobile store/website, or you won't get the extended 60 day use for the $35 and $50 refill cards, if you do a search on the Walmart website for "mobile broadband pass" and look at the $35/$50 T-Mobile cards you'll see in the details that the 60 day time periods are ONLY FOR DEVICES BOUGHT FROM WALMART. If you bought the hotspot from anywhere else you'll only get 30 days, T-Mobile will know where you bought it from by looking at your account and seeing the IMEI number from the device, Walmart ones have unique IMEI's. When it comes to buying the refill cards, you can either buy them directly from the Walmart website using e-mail delivery so you get it right away and then can activate the PIN sent to your e-mail whenever you'd like, or you can login to your t-mobile account and buy the pass directly from them which will activate it right away. Also, when you buy the cards they are not activated until you activate the code from it, and you can activate the code from your t-mobile account. AND YES, YOUR T-MOBILE ACCOUNT WILL AUTOMATICALLY DETECT THE IMEI NUMBER FROM THE DEVICE and will know if it's from Walmart or not, if it detects that you bought it from Walmart the $35 (60 day or 3.5GB) and $50 (60 day or 5GB) passes will automatically show up for you to purchase instead of the 30 day ones. You simply login to your t-mobile account and click on Manage then go to Passes. If you need help I'll post all the links below that will have all the info you need, hopefully they are not filtered out. http://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-1936 http://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-4829 http://www.walmart.com/ip/T-Mobile-35-Prepaid-Mobile-Broadband-Pass-Email-Delivery/21191046 http://www.walmart.com/ip/T-Mobile-50-Prepaid-Mobile-Broadband-Pass-Email-Delivery/21191047

I've been getting this pass for the last 8 months or so with no problems (through the myTmobile website, since it was instantly applied) - it was good for the for the 60 days since I bought my hotspot through Walmart, and it was the stated $35. No issues. Then I ran out of data, and had turned off auto-renew. When I tried to buy the pass, I found that the TMobile site has been down for almost 6 weeks now; the replacement site lists this $35 card as an option, but will not allow me to purchase it. Trying to purchase from Walmart resulted in repeated errors, due to an error in "processing payment" (using the same information I used to buy the device in the first place, so I don't know what's up with that). The Tmobile customer service reps do not have this option available either. I was able to purchase a 60-day 5gb card for $50, but this was the only 60 day option. It's only an extra $7.50 a month for more data, but just BEWARE before you decide this is for you - rumor has it that they've done away with this option and you will only be able to buy a more expensive card, or a cheaper one that's not good for as long or that has as much data. BUYER BEWARE!!!

T-Mobile Does Not Honor Terms

T-Mobile did not give me the promised 60 day term for this pass even though I called their customer service three times in advance to ask if they would honor the WalMart terms. Three times T-Mobile assured me that I would get 60 days when I purchased and applied the WalMart pass. However, on applying the pass, they would give me only one month of service. Customer service would not make any adjustment. I recommend that customers not deal with T-Mobile as this company is not satisfactory, and to choose other carriers with higher integrity for broadband service.

Customer has been confirmed to have purchased the item from Walmart.

the product is ok but is such a hassle to activate it. there is a toll number to do it after taken all information the bot tells you the account is already credited, when you try to use it it says you need to purchase a card to activate it, I call customer service and talk talk to different people being transfered to a specialized department, they ask for passwords which I never remember to have set up, at the end they give me a phone number to set up a password and this number is a travel promotion advertising answering machine, I spent almost an hour trying to activate it, after I received a confirmation that the card had been already credited. Unbelievable poor customer care for this product from T mobile

  • A. There is a special phone number that comes with the email card that you have to call to enter your PIN number. There were some glicthes for me in setting it up so I had to call Tmobile. Sadly, since this is a special offer through walmart I have found that some of the Tmobile operators get confused and have not been made aware of the plan. I did eventually get a Tmobile operator that knew about the Walmart plan and he got everything fixed up and so far it has been working fine. Just be sure to let the Tmobile operator know that it is the Walmart plan and be sure that the operator is familuar with the Walmart plan.

  • A. You must purchase the hotspot from Wal-Mart for 60 days pass to work. 60 day pass is exclusive to Wal-Mart and will only work with hotspots purchased at Wal-Mart.

I am about to buy the $35 Broadband card for 3.5GB data or 60 days whichever comes first. But I have heard these horror stories that T-Mobile does not honor to 60 days if you still have a balance left at the end of 30 days. IS THIS TRUE????

  • A. I have been getting 60 days and T-Mobile seems to have mostly fixed their refill method. Last time mine expired but I had already entered the refill pass # and it automatically switched. That was cool. On the other hand, Walmart no longer accepts my VISA debit card so I may have to move on to another customer-friendlier retail site.

  • A. I am on my third $35 card. They all have lasted 2 months (I use maybe a gig per month). I understand that the key is if you bought the access point from Walmart. T-Mobile knows where it was bought, and their deal with Walmart is that they will give Walmart clients 2 months instead of the normal 1 month.

  • A. They not only honor it, it is a permanent selection for refill on their Dashboard for the Hotspot. No need to go and buy another. Just by it on your Dashboard and it immediately activates. Hope this helped.

  • A. VERY TRUE!!! They claim they have "changed" their plans & offer $30 for 2.5 GB & no longer honor the $35 pass even though they are still being advertised AND sold as 3.5 GB for 60 days.

  • A. I bought this through Walmart for 1st 2 cards, then I switched to auto-pay thru T-Mobile. So far all have been good for 60 days each (so $17.50/mo). Excellent deal. T-Mobile only charges like an extra 50 cents, which is worth it not to have to hassle with it.

  • A. i have used the ZTE-MF-61 t-mobile prepaid hotspot for approx 1year (since 2012-07) and have found this NEVER to be an issue EXCEPT for those customers who did not purchase the device, itself from Walmart. T-Mobile only guarantees the 60day offer for customers who purchase the Hardware DEVICE through Walmart. and if i decide to purchase "a refill card online" through the T-Mobile site, it is indeed more expensive (for example 1.07 x $35 or $37.45 for the $35 card) it is more expensive than the $35.00000 which i'm charged at any Walmart store. (YES my state has a 7% sales tax, but salestax is not supposed to be charged on services like a refill card so apparently T-Mobile just adds that extra $2.45 to the column marked "profits.") however, when i log into the t-mobile site "the offer is $35 for 3.5Gb for 60 days" - it is clearly stated as such on the T-Mobile site. But note - i did purchase the hardware DEVICE from Walmart as required by this 60day agrrement.
