This was a birthday gift, and what a gift! Features are great! I use it mostly for gym and running. I also have the chest strap. It fits great the watch band is comfortable and the features are more then I even need! Highly recommend for every athlete, to the weekend warriors to the 5/6 days a week athlete. Amazing customer service as well.

Great look and features
Solid well built running watch
Coming from a forerunner 235 and it is way more durable and substantial feeling. Battery life is excellent and it has a lot of great features. Some say the screen is dim but I think it's fine - I usually use it in the daytime but haven't noticed an issue with it at night.
Perfect balance between über smart and basic.
I've had my Suunto 5 for several months now and could not be more pleased. I had been hunting for a long time for a reasonably priced and sensibly sized sports watch that sat somewhere between a basic running watch and options like the Suunto 9. This hit the mark. So far, I have used it for running (road and trail), road biking, yoga, SUPing, and aerobics training. Everything works beautifully and the GPS seems very accurate and consistent. I read reviews about the HR monitor not working well, but I have enjoyed it. However, I am not using it to scientifically train for races/events, so I can't speak to it's accuracy in that context. I also read about issues reading the backlight mid-exercise. I have used this watch in dim, bright, and dappled light and everything in between with no issues reading the watch face. The battery life has been great. I train in GPS mode 4-6 hours/wk. and I charge it maybe every 10 days? If you were using the GPS on a multi-day backpacking trip, you might have to get an extra charge in. Unless you need very advanced metrics or GPS maps, or you'll miss smart watch features, I'd recommend this watch whole-heartedly.
I just bought this watch, I love the features and the way it fits. Looking forward to using this watch in my workouts, tracking all things fitness.
Cool sport watch
It seems that Suunto is getting better and better. It took me a while to get used to smaller display size (I had Spartan before), however it didn't take too much time to get use to buttons instead of touch screen. I'm only using it for few weeks, but I've already noticed improved HR measurements and step counter, even in vibrations you can feel a difference. I like new training programs and love the watch telling me to "Slow down" when I'm over-motivated at the beginning of running. I can fully recommend this watch for those who are not comfortable with bigger screen (otherwise S9 might be a good option).
