Recommended by Ford for pre 96 Power Steering

This fluid and spec is suggested to use up to 95-96 on Ford Vehicles in the POWER STEERING system. NOT TRANSMISSION. Consult your manual or search online. PS fluid is essentially 20wt oil, but the additive packages vary widely. For example, Mercon V is NOT OK for a transfer case, but standard Mercon is. You could probably use Mercon but Ford never officially changed the spec for power steering. There could be issues with seal compatibility, and considering the age of the vehicles not worth to chance it. As a plus it cost less too! After cleaning the PS tank filter on my 95 V8 Tbird with brake clean and total fluid exchange by turning the wheel while cranking and flushing it steers like new on the original parts!

ATF seems OK, service is great

Type F ATF can be hard to find and when I find it on the store shelves there are usually only a couple of bottles. I needed at least 8 quarts for a C4 tranny rebuild and by placing an order online for pickup in the store I got what I wanted without having to spend a lot of time in the store.

1985 Mustang and 1991 Mercury Grand Marquis

My Mustang has 471,000 miles on it now and only 54,000 when i bought it and this is the only transmission fluid i have used - i used to work for a oil company and delivered to a lot of transmission shops and they all used type F in everything but i don't recommend you do it just because i did - i only use it from my personal knowledge and trust of type F anti slip ingredient's

    Owner's Manual specs it

Needed Type F per owner's manual and couldn't find it at an auto parts stores, so defaulted to Walmart.
