Assemby was easy. Caution and safety info was adequate. I did read other users comments and agree straight branches quick chipping. Those with bends or where multiply branches join in it's better to separate them takes a little longer but well worth the time. The Sun Joe only jammed on me once I did not notice a knot growth on a branch and this is where it jammed. I chipped two types of wood. Very dry from a tree that I removed a year ago and the recent trees I removed recently. The dry wood did take the 1 1/2" brances well. The green branches same size I had to feed slowly. Reference what someone else posted: a. very small twigs do not chip. I removed them while working. b. This unit does not shred. The opening is to small, with two chipping blades most of what I did shred just went thru and it was hard to tell if it shred at all. This is a good tool for the price. Take your time, split branches to reduce jams, and keep the chipping area clean

I have been very pleased with this little wood chipper so far. It has performed very well and done exactly what it is advertised to do and a little more. The larger pieces need to be fed slowly, but so far I have had only 3 jams (in a total of about 6 hours of operation) and those were on hard wood or on large pieces at or more than 1.5 inches. The jams are easy to clear. Turn off the machine and pull the plug. Then, unscrew the big red knob. The whole top folds over for cleaning and debris removal. I think this will be easy to get to for sharpening and/or blade changes, too. To put it back in working order, just close the top again and screw the red knob back down (all the way). Plug it back in and turn it on. 2 minutes tops. I was skeptical about this because it is electric, but absolutely no problem. Assembly was less than 20 minutes and very easy. The product shipped fast and arrived in good shape. This little machine did a great job for me and was well worth the money.

First let me say that this is not a commercial unit. I personally don't need anything commercial so this chipper/shredder works great for me. The blades do dull relatively quick so I ordered and extra set. This way I always have a sharp pair ready. This unit ate up 500 corn plants and mulched them in to two trash bags. It would have filled up about 15 bags not shredded. This not only saved me time, but worked better than I had even hoped for. Next project is the tomato plants and blackberry, raspberry and other bushes. If you are looking for a chipper/ shredder just for chopping up smaller stuff, this can't be beat for the money.

IT doesn't work well for leaves due to the opening. Works fine for small twigs and jobs. I just moved into a hothouse with .71 acre and the people who lived here didn't do yard work for 3 years. Too many sticks and waves to make this a practical tool.

Does it handle wet material? I want something to use for chopping up garden and food waste. What is the difference between the $119 and $139 model?

    • A. The hopper slot is fairly small and a normal size apple would probably not fit through. Smaller items would fit, however sticky items might have a hard time making it to the blade.

    • A. Deb, it would probably work but it is not a garbage disposal--it would be messy and would need to be cleaned. As it is an electrical tool you should be very hesitant about exposing it to water.

    • A. I think this is not designed for wet material as instructions say to put dry wood through and use dry wood to unjam. Also won't chop small items like leaves and small twigs - they just pass through. Just my opinion.

    • A. I would not recommend it. Very small chipping area. wet material could easily just wrap around the blade housing. Wet and electricity I would be concerned.

    • A. I wouldn't use it for wet garden or food material. It should only be used with twigs, small branches, pruning cuttings and other woody cuttings.

    • A. How wet? It has to be fed into an electric chopper, so I'm not sure about food waste. On the other hand, it handles fleshy stalks (canna lilies in our case) without gumming up. It should be something that can be fed into a chipper like branches or stalks. (It's not like a garbage disposal that can a lump of stuff.)

    • A. I just got one, no it doesn't. I put a small bucket under the shoot but it fills up so fast, I just ended up letting the chipped up material pile up on the ground and I scooped it up later. I'm sure you could rig something up pretty easily but the shoot is pretty low to the ground and shoots straight down.

I'm looking for a shredder that will shred flower stems, leaves.and small branches. Will this do the job? Other machines of similar design say that the leaves pass right through without being shredded.

    • A. No, the best it does is cut the thinner branches down to 5" twigs. I bought this to shred trimmings from my rose bush and it really didn't help much. Other than that, leaves and such just pass through.

    • A. Won't work well for leaves. I fed branches with leaves still attached. Some cut up nicely, some passed through fairly intact and others piled up at the top of the shoot and had to be cleared out. Not meant for mulching leaves. Large flower stems will cut up nicely though.

    • A. short answer - no I used this on bamboo and it worked great on the canes but the leaves passed through mostly unchanged as did the the twigs attaching the leaves to the canes. The small branches should work if they are straight and dry. I used it on corn stalks but b/c it was still fresh it could potentially clog (even though it didn't when I used it)
