I have been using this for 5 weeks with my Straight Talk UMX Hot Spot. It seems like a very good deal so far but have a few issues with going this route. Before I bought the Hotspot and this card I spoke at length with a Straight talk customer service lady who was very nice. The problem was that I asked 3 times if this was Unlimited service for 2 months. Each time she assured me that, yes it is. Well, no it isn't at all and was told by another CS rep recently that there is no such thing as Unlimited! I don't like having to call the one Straight Talk phone number and wade through 15 minutes of prompts to finally talk to someone about this and my Hotspot. There is no separate phone number for data/hotspot or card refill issues. The other problem is that there is no warning at all that you are running low on data. You have to keep checking the website and when you run out, of course you can't get online to do that!

When you buy the 60 day plan for the mobile hotspot, it stops working after 30 days. You have to call to re-activate it. StraightTalk says it is a software problem and they are working on a fix. But this has been going on for 6 months now. It is hard to get someone on the phone to help. When it is working, it is pretty fast. Not Verizon 4G fast, but it is ok.

Not sure why the bad review, obviously this is only the data plan associated with a Straight Talk Mobile Hotspot...it will not just give anybody with any device 3G capabilities. The hotspot is a simple device to setup and as long as you do not need blazing high speeds or use a lot of data, this data card is very easy and simple to load. Create an account at Straight Talk, load the code, and you're good to go.

    • A. I believe when I purchased the hotspot device (not the card) on the Walmart website there were 2 different models offered & I somehow determined that the difference was that one ran on AT&T & one on Verizon. I may have gotten this info from the Amazon questions as I read lots of their reviews as well. I also noticed this 2 close model number thing for an LG phone I purchased prior to that. Mostly the same model number except for the last digit or so & yes, the Verizon ones had more sales & better reviews. I'm positive I read the phone info on Amazon or eBay since that's where I purchased it, but the hotspot info may be on the Walmart website since that's where I purchased it. I also noticed that I think they only had the one model available in their store near me in the Detroit area & I believe it was AT&T & definitely more expensive than buying online even with shipping & picking it up at the store even a better deal. I've been using this hotspot device for several months now & the only complaint I've really had with the 60 day card is that it will cut you off on the 30 day mark even if you have data left & you have to call to get them to switch it back on. Supposedly they're working on fixing this. So, if you have a preference of Verizon what determines whether you will be using their network is the device you purchase, not the top-up card. I believe I also checked my area for ratings on the best carrier in my area before I purchased so that is a good idea as well since the quality of service will definitely vary by area. Try to look at the data on the tech stuff like dropped calls since their actual customer service people wouldn't be an issue with the hotspot since you would be going through a reseller (Straight Talk/TracPhone) for that with the device in this instance not AT&T or Verizon.

    • A. No it is Straight talk hotspot and will need the straight talk hotspot data plan, which can be purchased either on walmart.com or straighttalk.com or in some walmart store locations.

    • A. My apologies, I misread your question. The answer is no. You can't use this card to supply service to a Verizon hotspot (one that you purchased from Verizon).

    • A. This card only works with the Straight Talk Hotspot (not with any of the Straight Talk phones) and the hotspot does use the Verizon native network. You actually have no choice. Straight Talk currently offers only one hotspot and again, it will use Verizon no matter where you are located. • A. No it is only 60days. Even if you have 1gb left at 60days the plan is up and you need to renew. I would try a lower plan at first to see about how much you are going to be using and then try the larger plan if its something you feel you would be able to use.

    • A. My apologies for not being helpful, jack. However, I stand by my answer. When 60-days passes, you lose service. Again, it's a "whichever comes first" situation. You lose service when 5 GB are used OR when 60-days (approximately 2-months) passes, whichever comes first. If you use 5 GB in three days, as an example, the service will expire. If 60-days passes and you've only used 2 GB, the service will expire and you lose any remaining data.

    • A. Unfortunately, you will lose all unused data once 60-days passes from the time of activation. It's a "whichever comes first" situation. The service expires when 5 GB of data is used or 60-days passes from activation, "whichever comes first."
