Simple, versatile and effective

No matter how much we digitize our lives, there is always some paperwork following us around. I recently decided that I no longer needed large metal filing cabinets taking up space in my home and started looking around for something more portable and stackable to store my files. After trying a few other options, I saw these Sterilite Legal/Letter File Boxes online and gave them a try. I am so glad that I did as they are a marked change from the metal cabinets. I can store the entire contents of a 3-drawer metal cabinet in just one of these boxes, making these incredible space savers. I use colored folders and can tell at a glance what records are stored inside since the boxes are transparent. I started off buying one, but have since gone back and purchased 7 more. I stack them four high and they remain very stable. Another nice feature of these boxes is that they are versatile. You can store either legal or letter-sized documents inside. There is a plastic lip for file hangers all around the inside of the box and you only have to rotate the files 90 degrees to fit. I do not have any legal-sized files but I enjoy having the option. There is a rim around the outside edge that makes them easy to grab and move around and the sides have plenty of space for stickers or labels. These boxes are not waterproof or fireproof. They will keep standing water away from your files as long as the water level doesn't reach the lid but will not stop rain or fire sprinkler systems from soaking them. As you would expect, being made of plastic they will quickly just become fuel if exposed to fire. These are simple yet effective boxes and I am a definite fan!
