I have two laptops. One is mine and one belongs to my son. I have broad band internet service. I want to know if this device would be able to connect each of the laptops to the internet by using the ethernet cords plugged into this product, and to my internet connection service line,(I have the kind that you add a filter then plug it into the phone jack). I would much rather find out know before I go purchase the product and find out it has no use to me. Any help with this question is greatly appreciated.

    • A. I am not sure it will work through a filter. As long as there is an Ethernet connection you should not have any problems. To use it in multiple computers all you have to do is install the program in all computers to access the NAS. A program Disk comes with it. Just follow the directions. I have it installed in three desktop computers, without any problems.

    • A. No, you need a router with DHCP. This will only interconnect devices for a local network. For internet access for multiple devices you need to have your IP from your ISP split into multiple IPs. That's what a router does.

    • A. Yes, this is a 5-port switch. So you can connect up to 5 computers. But I think you might be better off buying a wireless router, although using a plug-in is more stable.

    • A. You can share your internet connection with this product. You must run the wire from the telephone jack to the modem (provided by your service provider). Then, instead of plugging your laptop into the modem with the internet cable, plug the modem into one of the jacks on the switch. Then plug your laptops into the switch as well using your internet cables.

    • A. No wireless card needed. You can either plug it in a wireless router and then run your other computers from there. Or if you have an ethernet port on your wall, you can just plug it in there and then run your computers from there.

    • A. No, just an Ethernet jack on the computer you want to connect with a CAT-5 cable ( it's wired, not wireless )

    • A. This product is NOT wireless. You do not need one to work with this product. It is designed to use an ethernet cat 5 cable to share an internet or network connection. You must connect a ethernet cable from the modem to the switch. Then, from the switch to the LAN card on your computer. It looks like an oversized, telephone plug.

I needed to split an internet connection without having to run another cat5 wire to the router. This switch effectively split my connection and allows both of my network devices to connect to the internet. Cheap and effective.

Dirt cheap, very easy to install and works like a charm. No need to read the manual, just plug and play. I have a TV, streaming video and a Wii in the living room away from my router and I prefer wire over wi-fi. I have another line going upstairs to a computer, printer and 2 tv's so I bought a second switch. I am very happy with the reliability and the speed of the wired connection with my many devices thanks to the switch.

Ok the thing they dont tell you is you need a router for it to work for more the one computar. This is only ment to be useed with a router when you run out of ethernet ports on the ruter you buy this and you have more ports to hook more computars up. The reson why this will only work with a router is that the switch does not make more IP address that a second computer needs, I found this out when i waited two weeks for this and four hours on the phone to find out every thing im telling you know. So if your looking for somthing to hook up another computar or a ps3, xbox 360, wii all you need is a router and your in luck you can pick one up in the walmart store for 30 bones and you dont have to wast your time trying to find out why it dosent work.

Nice ethernet switch that's very stable with the network. Haven't noticed any lag in my connection yet. Comparing to the expensive brand names, this is a great product.

This switch is an incredible value! I use it to link my Blu-ray player and DVR to the internet through a wireless bridge. All I had to do was plug it in, connect the ethernet cables and everything was online. Would definitely recommend for connecting several different devices to a single network source.

I only have one ethernet output on my modem so I bought this to connect my computer and DVD player. When I tried to use it only the first item I used would work. The second would reply that I didn't have a connection because there was no IP address. Couldn't get it to work even manually entering the address.

Anyone with a modem with less ethernet ports than needed, this is an excellent way to get up to 5 extra ports for your other devices. It's easy to connect and it hasn't let me down yet. You will need to order it online, however, because it isn't usually sold in the store. But it is inexpensive, compared to like devices but who needs to pay more for something that does the same thing as the higher priced ones?
