The greatest adventure of all time begins with "Star Trek", the incredible story of a young crew's maiden voyage on board the most advanced starship ever created: the U.S.S. Enterprise. In the midst of an incredible journey full of optimism, intrigue, comedy and cosmic peril, the new recruits must find a way to stop an evil being whose mission of vengeance threatens all of mankind. The fate of the galaxy rests in the hands of bitter rivals born worlds apart. One, James Tiberius Kirk (Chris Pine), a delinquent, thrill-seeking Iowa farm boy, a natural-born leader in search of a cause. The other, Spock (Zachary Quinto), grows up on the planet Vulcan, an outcast due to his half-human background, which makes him susceptible to the volatile emotions that Vulcans have long lived without, and yet an ingenious, determined student, who will become the first of his kind accepted into the Starfleet Academy. Kirk and Spock could not be more different. Yet, in their quest to figure out who they really are and what they have to give to the world, they soon become competitive cadets-in-training. With their drastically opposite styles, one driven by fiery passion, the other by rigorous logic, they also become defiant, contentious adversaries, each equally unimpressed with the other, each going all out to be among the special few chosen to join the crew of the most advanced starship ever created, the U.S.S. Enterprise. The Crew is headed by Captain Christopher Pike (Bruce Greenwood). Joining him are the ship's Medical Officer Leonard "Bones" McCoy (Karl Urban); the man who will become the ship's Chief Engineer, Montgomery "Scotty" Scott (Simon Pegg); Communications Officer Uhura (Zoe Saldana); experienced Helmsman Sulu (John Cho); and the 17-year-old whiz kid Chekov (Anton Yelchin). All will face a harrowing first test that will set in motion the loyalty, camaraderie, daring and good humor that will bind them forever. In the midst of it all, Kirk and Spock will come face-to-face with an undeniable destiny: a need to forge an unlikely but powerful partnership, enabling them to lead their crew to boldly go where no one has gone before.

I had seen this movie in the theater and couldn't wait to get it for home. Absolutely love this movie, great story, awesome special effects and stays true to Star Trek lore. Which means that the guy in the red shirt (or suit as is the case in this flick) will die. JJ Abrams directed this so you know it's gonna be a fast paced, exciting ride. Worth every penny and when you get it from Wally's you definitely get your money's worth.

  • A. This movie came out in 2009 and is not a copy of any Star Trek episode although Leonard Nimoy does play a furture version of himself in the movie.

  • A. This is a NEW movie. It is a throwback prior to the original movie (Kirk, Spock, Scotty, Bones, Ohura, Checkov and Sulu), sort of like a Prequel of "How they all got together" but with major twists and turns.

  • A. "the incredible story of a young crew's maiden voyage on board the most advanced starship ever created: the U.S.S. Enterprise" Dont think that was the first star trek episode.

  • A. Its a new movie. It explains how Captain Kirk became Captain Kirk. I didn't watch much of the original series (I am more of a "the next generation" fan), but I know that TOTAL DIE HARD fans of the original series love this movie too. It incorporates both generations with lots of action. There is one "adult scene" that I will fast forward for my 11 year old. No nudity, just a bit too much for my son. Over all I give it a 5 out of 5 stars!!!

  • A. This is actually a new movie! A more recent movie that came out this summer.. So it's not an old movie or episodes series.. It's a remake of star trek and it's wonderful.. And if u have a blu ray player I recommend it to get it on blu ray!!!!

  • A. This dvd is a new movie and the story line takes us back to the "beginning" if you will when the characters we all know from both the series and previous movies are starting their Star Fleet lives/careers. An excellent movie in my opinion from a long standing Trek fan.

Don't have (nor want) a wide screen TV to watch a movie. We don't buy widescreen DVDs.

  • A. You Don't need a widescreen TV to watch it. I didn't want to give in to widescreen either but, open your mind sit and watch one on any TV and realize hey I didn't notice that before. Widescreen allows you to see more because you are looking totally at what is in the picture as well as what is on screen. You become more aware. Try it

  • A. you do realize the full screen format is terrible right? I dont know about some people but when i buy a movie i want to see what i saw in theatres.. not something that has a good part of the sides cut off..."Filling up the whole screen" is a horrible reason to justify it. And you cant get a tv that isnt widescreen anymore... not to mention most newer shows are broadcasted in widescreen anyways..

  • A. Honestly I prefer full screen too. I'm pretty sure this is only available in wide screen. I believe an anamorphic lens was used. It's explained in "A New Vision" that you should watch after the movie if you want to really get an idea of just how old fashion styled this movie is despite it's technical brillance. I can argue very convincingly that some of us visually process full screen better for one reason or another but such is life. REGARDLESS, YOU SHOULD GIVE THIS MOVIE A CHANCE . I CONVINCED MY 72 YEAR OLD MOTHER to watch this with me last night. SHE WAS SO RELUCTANT for similar reasons as the wide screen issues which I completely understand, but she took a leap of faith in my opinion. Now she wants to see all the old episodes again even though she and I did not like the original series for a variety of reasons.

  • A. You should really reconsider the widescreen format. Movies are made and released for theaters that way and the fullscreen process cuts off both sides of what you see and besides all televisions will be widescreen eventually. I'm sure the day will come when fullscreen (pan & scan) won't even be offered on DVDs.

  • A. It is HIGHLY improbable they will release a pan-n-scan version. Chopping off a third or more of the picture destroys the composition and intent of those that worked hard to create a film.

  • A. Full Screen / Full Frame not available in Walmart inventory yet. My wife and I know what you mean. We love this format and will always prefer it, despite the way TVs are made in this world today! Why the disparity though in making and pricing these formats?!!? The new Terminator movie is priced $9.98 in widescreen and $15.88 in fullscreen!! What's up with that???? Have a great day.
