    cheap n' quick

Not exactly precision instrument - does help with maintaining the edge - the stone is piece of junk - fine side on mine has slope from left to right, not flat at all - in addition to chips/crumbling corners. I went to my local Asian grocery and found some hard core old fashion sharpening stones 3" wide and 8" long for ~$3...they work great. As for stanley's ...the stone is going in the drawer..the hone guide I'll use until I can afford a better one

    Absolute junk

The guide is poorly designed, constructed from pressed metal and plastic. The clamping design is a top-to-bottom format instead of from the sides. This allows to blade to skew off at an angle without warning. The tightening screws use plastic nuts. Tighten too snug and they'll strip out. The plastic roller on the bottom is medium hardness plastic and damages quickly. The flip-out guide to set the edge angle is a nifty idea, however it is plastic with a loose plastic hinge and plenty of play. Getting things accurate is not an option. The pressed metal frame is not square and cannot be relied on to visually set the blade square in the guide. The stone is very soft. Sharpened one blade and the face of the stone is already hollowing out. Strongly recommend finding a side clamping guide if you are serious about having blades with properly squared surfaces.

    Good Item

This sharpener is good for the price. It does well sharpening chisels, its just time consuming and quite laborious.

    Sharpening system

I have one for over a year and it's good, it's not easy to use but if you have experience it will do the job.. The price is also good, I've bought another to keep reserved. Cons: I think Stanley could have more stones with less and more grain. I have to finish my chisels with another stones or sandpapers. It could have a box or a stand, I've made one out of kambala wood to keep my stone.
