Spirit-Filled Jesus really hits home in explaining the humanity of Jesus. That's a topic we say a lot, but most of us don't really understand its depth. When Jesus was tempted like us, it wasn't a single instance that stopped when He said no. The Devil has too much to lose if Jesus doesn't sin to give up after 1 attempt.
Pastor Mark walks through several instances where the Bible shows Jesus with the Holy Spirit and the result of being strengthened as a result. As is Pastor Mark's traditional style, he shows us the passage, teaches what happened, and provides practical life application.
I highlighted tons of paragraphs throughout the book, by my favorite quote talks about how we engage with our local church, which *should be* what focuses us on the Holy Spirit:
"People shop for a church that tells them what they want to hear and provides the service they want to have. This is the spiritual equivalent of trying to get physically healthy by paying an athlete to work out while you sit down and watch them exercise."
I think Spirit Filled Jesus is incredibly valuable and useful for study. It's not Pastor Mark's best book - it's hard for me to top Who Do You Think You Are or Vintage Church - but it's definitely worth the read. Get it!
I was given a free advanced review copy of the book by its publisher. I was not paid, and my opinion is my own. While I live in the Phoenix area, we do not attend Trinity where Pastor Mark preaches.
