An absolute dream machine!
This Spiegel 60609 Sewing Machine is an absolute dream to sew with. I have to admit that I was somewhat apprehensive and intimidated by all the bells and whistles. I have always opted for the basics. But this Spiegel 60609 Sewing Machine has changed my mind. The instructions are easy to follow. There are three Spiegel apps with many tutorials to refer to. Plus I found so many "how to" videos online that helped me so much. It's always better to see someone actually demonstrate instructions. I love the needle cam where I can watch what I am sewing as I am sewing. The WiFi station has an attachment that holds my tablet and also can hold my phone. There is a USB port for powering your chosen device as well. So I have the apps on both of my devices. You can also make videos of your sewing projects. So, if you are so inclined, you can also share your sewing videos on social media. There are 350 different stitches built into the machine. There are several different styles of letters as well as numbers. But you can also download even more stitches. The possibilities are endless. And with the needle cam you can watch as the machine creates all these beautiful designs. It's so much fun. I am constantly thinking of things that I want to add decorative stitches too. I was also able to hem my husband's jeans with the double needle and they look like they were professionally sewn. And with the free arm option it was a breeze. He was quite impressed. He usually pays $10 to have a pair of jeans hemmed. There are seven styles of button holes. Which is an impressive assortment to choose from. There are 9 different pressure feet to accommodate all the different stitches and sewing jobs that you want to do. I was impressed with the automatic start and stop button. My old sewing machine had the foot pedal that was always slipping away from me as I was sewing. So this feature is something that I really like. I also couldn't believe how quiet this Spiegel 60609 Sewing Machine runs. My old sewing machine used to rattle the table as I sewed. My old sewing machine also did not have an automatic needle threader. What a plus that is! I also want to mention the LED light. If you sew for any period of time you know how hot the light can get. But the LED light stays cool and is a much brighter light without being a harsh light. And, of course, I can't write a review about this amazing machine without raving about it's elegant appearance. It's white with metallic gold bands around the bottom. It is gorgeous. I purchased a universal sewing machine case from Walmart.com but this machine is too beautiful to cover up. I highly recommend the Spiegel 60609 Sewing Machine to anyone. I have raved about it to my friends and family as well. You'll love it!

Unconventional and Comprehensive Threading System
While my intention was to spend a few weeks with this sewing machine and hopefully give it Rave Reviews, unfortunately, my experience was not a good one. With that being said, I do not want to ruin the passion of first-time sewers; I just feel that this is not the right machine to begin on due to the comprehensive and unconventional way of threading this sewing machine. A difficult-to-operate sewing machine can make great students forever turn their backs to learning how to sew and I seriously do not want to see that! Yet, if there is a teacher, classroom or someone experienced with this machine to teach and instruct the student, then by all means learn how to use it. I am confident that once the User has moved passed the learning curve, it will serve to be an outstanding sewing machine. However, I have to base my opinions on my initial use of this machine, the online tutorials and customer support. I have been an avid sewer since pre-teen. I made everything from pleated drapes, to down jackets for all of my many brothers, to 3-foot Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls that I sold while a teen to make extra cash. I even made my own silk Prom dress (of which I still have in storage). I am not new to sewing or threading a sewing machine at all. I'm all about the New Frontier and the new electronic age. Walmart provided this sewing machine for me to test and review for you, the consumer. First thing I noticed was, "60609" and thought, "Why would they name a machine with such a long number?" After Googling 60609, it lead me to a Chicago, IL zip code. After confirming my thoughts with Spiegel that this Limited Edition machine was named after this zip code, Spiegel confirmed that yes, it was - the zip code where the Company began, Chicago, IL; catchy and ----> I Like <----. The sewing machine arrived and everything was there including a bobbin full on thread. Apparently Spiegel had already tested this machine prior to shipping and it was wonderful to know that I had a spool of "their thread" to test out. I went out and purchased $100 of items and fabrics to get myself started with this new sewing machine. My goal was to make some very nice videos for the consumer. I downloaded the App and watched the instructional videos but the video I needed most was HOW TO THREAD THE MACHINE. Although the instructor was verbally stating how to thread the machine, his hands got in the way, thus, the User could not visually see how he was threading the machine. Spiegel informed me on February 17, 2016 that they are working on a new video for threading the machine and are aware of the problem with their first video. Unfortunately, as of this writing, I still can't understand how to thread this machine and have still not sewn one thing! So here is my list of concerns with this machine: THREADING THE MACHINE: Not for beginners or novice sewers. It's just an odd and weird threading system and a complete waste of thread. I snapped thread over and over and o-v-e-r trying to thread this machine on the razor sharp "Thread Guide." CUSTOMER SUPPORT: They had me removing the Thread Guide from the sewing machine to get it to thread, yet I still could not get the machine to thread. They compare threading this machine to flossing your teeth, which isn't a bad analogy if it worked, but it didn't. Customer Service did not know which way the bobbin plastic attachment was supposed to face. Well, I don't know either. ONLINE VIDEOS: The instructor has his hands in the video tutorial which is blocking the viewer from seeing what is taking place. It's great that he is verbally walking us through it but, we need to visually see what he is doing! PAPER MANUAL INSTRUCTIONS: Still not enough for this comprehensive threading of the machine. The manual needs to include more color in the descriptions. The manual uses color photos to play up the marketability of the machine (page 19), yet uses very limited color to show how to thread the machine (page 22). INSTRUCTIONS: Mediocre, whether by video tutorial, customer support, or in hard copy…just not enough. No one can really verbally tell me, nor show me how to thread this machine or which way the plastic spool piece is supposed to attach. It's pretty impossible to thread; actually, with all of my sewing experience, I never achieved threading this machine. There is this metal mechanism called the Thread Guide to thread through that kept slicing my expensive thread. That was the piece that Spiegel told me to remove ---> but then why is it there in the first place? But I still couldn't get it to thread. And then there is the automatic threader? Ok, can't figure that out either. STITCH-CAM: Great feature and just plain fun! I made a YouTube video from it just to test it out. Unfortunately, I wasn't sewing anything because I never got the machine to thread. I could only wish they would have a cam to assist threading the machine because the user needs a magnifying glass to maneuver the thread through the threading process. INTERNAL SPOOL HOLDERS: There are two; not quite sure why. I did not like this feature. I like the spool on top of the machine. Spool thread continued to unravel. SMART DEVICE HOLDER: It fit my 11.6 inch laptop perfectly. Unfortunately there is no App for my laptop, therefore I couldn't use it with this machine. I used my tiny-screened cell phone instead, but watched my home surveillance cameras and surfed the internet on it instead while trying to thread this machine. I did enjoy the charging station on the side of the machine for my cell phone. However, when using my Samsung Galaxy Note 4 in this holder, the handy hook could not slide down far enough to secure my phone in place. My cell phone slipped around and, at times, fell out of this holder. TOP CAP: Does not flip all the way back and around, thus, stands erect instead getting in the way of the User's hands when trying to thread the machine from the deep valley inside. Worse, it is non-removable. A nuisance, but could be great if it flipped towards the back or was removable for threading purposes. I think Spiegel should thread the machine, top and bottom, prior to shipping to the consumer so that they can get an idea of how to thread this machine. Unfortunately, it's been weeks now and I still can't get this machine to sew even one stitch due to not knowing how to thread the machine. It is not often that I give up on testing a product but this time I am throwing in the towel. I would have never, ever guessed that I would throw in the towel on a sewing machine. It is not a User Friendly machine at all. It's a great price if it worked for me, but it did not. It appears to be a great starter machine at a great starter price with all of its features, therefore I still recommend it but with a 2-Star rating due to the threading issue and only if the User has someone to teach them how to thread this machine. It is fair to say I really look forward to the day when Spiegel comes out with a new and improved video(s) on how to thread this machine so that I can begin using it. Until then, it is going back into the box to hopefully use at a later date.

Spiegel WiFi Sewing Machine 60609 with Cam Stitch

The Computerized Spiegel Sewing Machine will truly amaze you. Whether you are a newbie/novice or an expert seamstress, you are going to fall in love very quickly with new computerized limited edition Spiegel Sewing Machine. I grew up in Chicago land and Spiegel was a number one shopping arena for our household. I relay this simply because the younger generation may not be familiar with Spiegel's 150 year history. Spiegel has truly been a household name for generations. Today, Spiegel is at the forefront of modern sewing machines with the Computerized WiFi Model 60609 Spiegel Sewing Machine. The list of what you receive with this machine is listed in Walmart description/details. What this machine can do, is more than amazing. There's a lot but I will list some of the innovative features and features that I found to be more than helpful/useful. HANDY HOOK: An adjustable arm that you can use to secure your tablet. You can use it to hold your SmartPhone, Tablet, or another device. USB CHARGING STATION: What a smart idea! You can charge up your table or another USB device. This is smart because there are tutorials and you'll find you don't have to worry about your device running down since it has an onboard charger. So cool! STITCH CAM: A camera at the sewing needle area so that you can see on your Tablet Device what you are sewing instead of having to scrunch down. What's more, you can snap images of the sewing area too for uploading to your computer which is handy for bloggers, sharing with friends, etc. FREE APP: Oh YES this is very useful and I just love it! There are video tutorials that walk you through using your new Spiegel Sewing Machine. Some of the Category Headings for the tutorials are Intro, Understanding Your Spiegel 60609, Essential Tools, Upper Threading, Using Spiegel Social Sharing, How to Use the Automatic Threader, Lower Threading, Winding a Bobbin, Bobbin Installation and Drop Feed, Stitch Cam Demo, Monogramming, Basic Hems, Ruffles & Pleats, Buttons & Buttonholes, and more…..and some very cool tutorials including too are How to Sew a Neoprene Tablet or Phone Sleeve, How to Sew a Dog Coat-Pattern & Assembly, and more! If you are new to sewing, you'll love these tutorials and I highly suggest watching them. APPENDIX STITCH TABLES: All you need do is press the folder key to choose the stitch you want. The stitches are also listed in the Operation Manual. Just press the OK button after you select the stitch you want. Couldn't be easier. There's hundreds to choose from! Straight Stitches, Basic Stitches, Buttonhole Stitches, Darning Stitches, Alphabet Stitches, Number Stitches, Thick Sewing Stitches, ZigZag Stitches, Twin Needle Stitches, Lace Sewing Stitches, and Decorative Sewing Stitches. Also, if you wish, there are downloadable stitches you can purchase through the Spiegel sewing app. I find the stitches that come with the machine to be an enormous selection/variety. OPERATION MANUAL: It's got you covered, really! I'm about as nearsighted as one can get and now with my aging eyes, I don't see so well close up either. This operation manual makes it EASY to SEE the diagrams. The diagrams are LARGE and easy to see what is what. This is VERY IMPORTANT in my opinion because what if you don't have a Smart Phone or Tablet? What if you don't have internet service for whatever reason...traveling, remote area, internet outage….whatever the case may be, no problem because you have a very useful easy to see and read, in hand, Operation Manual. WARRANTY: There is a 25 year limited warranty. A full Warranty Sheet comes with the machine that explains in detail what is covered and included a USA 800 telephone number. LIMITED EDITION: Inside the included Operation Manual is a page that signifies the 150th Spiegel Anniversary and is your Certificate of Authenticity with number. So don't throw out the operation manual! STORAGE AREA: Kind of a secret hideaway if you don't tell anyone. Mums the word! lol The bottom front left side detaches and is a great area to hold all your sewing accessories that come with the machine, and more. APPEARANCE: Beautiful. It really was designed with ease of use in mind but they did not leave out the sleek design with the golden lines. It's such an attractive machine that it's almost difficult to pull yourself away from it. CONS: I tried really hard to find negatives of this machine. I am nick picking but I will say firstly, the POWER CORD. For most everyone, I am sure the power cord is going to be plenty long for them. That's why I said I am nick picking and doing my best to find a con. The power cord is approximately 5 foot in length. The other con I nick picked to find is the SIZE. This machine may be a tad longer than many other sewing machines. It's 20.5 inches long. If you are someone that intends on purchasing a carry accessory bag for this machine, I believe Spiegel does have one you can purchase (although pricey). However, most of the sewing machine carrying bags I have found to be less than 20.5 inches. I've only touched on relaying the features and all that this machine is equipped to do. I find it so amazing that today, with this machine, it doesn't matter if you've ever had a thread in your hand or not. It doesn't matter because the machine truly does most the work for you and it's so easy to learn quickly with the instruction operation manual and also with the various tutorials. I believe you will enjoy this machine and have a life time of fun and memories made with it. I am happy that I could bring my honest opinion of it, to you.

Spiegel Sewing Machine Limited Edition Model 60609

This review is for the Spiegel Limited Edition Computerized Sewing Machine Model Number 60609. This awesome sewing machine offers: Wi-Fi Station Stitch Cam for viewing your sewing area and stitches Smart Sync Technology which allows you to connect to your Smart Phone, Kindle, or Tablet USB Charging Station Automatic Start & Stop Sewing (No Need For The Foot Pedal) Up Button Down Button 3 Speed Control Button Automatic Needle Threader 350 Built In Stiches which include utility, decorative, and heirloom designs Universal Smart Device Holder Handy Hook 9 - Low Shank Snap On Presser Feet 5 - Extra Needles T-Shaped Screwdriver 2 - Screwdrivers Seam Ripper & Cleaning Brush Combo 4 - Metal Bobbins 2 - Plastic Bobbins 2 - Large Spool Caps 2 - Small Spool Caps 1 - Quilting Guide Bar 1 - Plastic Sewing Machine Cover The dimensions of the Spiegel Sewing Machine are: 20 & 1/2" wide, 7" deep, and 12 & 1/2" tall. The throat area space is 8" wide by 4" high. This sewing machine sews like a charm. I am so impressed with the quality of the stitches and the smooth operation of the machine. You can run it at full speed and it still just purrs right along. The stitch quality is amazing and it does not skip stitches at all. It sews well at all speeds, is very steady, and does not bounce around at all. The stitch variety is amazing. I have a straight stitch sewing machine right now and I did not realize just how much I missed having all of these stitches. I really miss the zig-zag, blanket stitch, and the buttonhole maker. I have not been able to sew anything other than seams for my quilt. With this Spiegel sewing machine my possibilities are endless!!! I love, love, love, the automatic start and stop sewing button. It enables you to sew without the use of the foot pedal. This is an awesome feature for me due to a disability I have with my feet. I can not keep my feet hanging down for long periods of time so with the Spiegel sewing machine I will be able to sew for as long as I want. Thanks Spiegel for this great feature!!! The sewing machine came with a preloaded bobbin. I was surprised. I have never seen a sewing machine come with a preloaded bobbin before. It also came with a little stitch sampler with a variety of 8 different stitches. It was a nice touch!! The Spiegel sewing machine is able to make 9 different buttonhole styles, 3 styles of the alphabet and numbers 0-9, and even will sew a button on for you!! There is a free arm that enables you to sew hems, cuffs, etc. You can also store your accessories inside of the free arm. If you want to do some free motion quilting and need to drop down the feed dogs, you will need to open up the bobbin case and inside of there is a switch that will engage or disengage the feed dogs. The sewing machine has an automatic needle threader, a needle up button, and a needle down button. They work each time you press them and you can not program them. The Spiegel Sewing Machine has a new great technology which allows you to watch your sewing area and stitches through the Stitch Cam that you can download on your Smart Phone or Tablet. You will need to visit Google Play, iTunes Store, or the Amazon App Store to download the Spiegel Sewing Application. You can also visit www.SpiegelSewing.com for more information, additional premium stitches, patterns, tutorials, and more!! I give this amazing Spiegel Sewing Machine 5 stars. It is so easy to use, it sews wonderfully, and I love the quality of the product. Even though I give the Spiegel Sewing Machine 5 stars, there are a few things I would have wanted to have with this sewing machine: 1. An automatic thread cutter 2. A programmable needle up/down button 3. Walking Foot/Darning Foot 4. The Presser Feet Should Be Marked By Their Letter, It Was Hard To Identify Them These features may not be available in this price range, so I might be a little unrealistic. I still am giving it 5 stars without these additions because it deserves 5 stars. It is one amazing sewing machine, made by a company owned by women, that I look forward to using for many, many, many more years to come. If you are in the market for a good all around sewing machine, then this one is for you. It would also make a wonderful gift for those who are wanting to learn how to sew. It is great for a beginner or for someone who is a little more advanced. Enjoy!!!

AMAZING Sewing Machine!!

The 60609 Spiegel Computerized Home Sewing Machine is one of the most advanced and easy-to-use household sewing machines on the market. This sewing machine blows my mind. It's simple for beginners, perfect for experts and even seniors like me (which was surprising). It can be connected to any WiFi-enabled device or tablet (I can you believe this modern technology?). There is a Spiegel Social Sewing app and built-in WiFi station. Sewing is a dream with this Machine

While waiting on the arrival of the Spiegel 60609 Machine I thought I search the internet for a user's manual for more information on so that I had a head start before the machine arrived, and here is the link that I found https://spiegelsewing.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/216440077-Where-can-I-find-a-digital-users-manual-for-my-Spiegel-60609- Their web site all so had informational how to videos all so. Which helped a lot. After reading the manual I realized that the thread, sets INSIDE the top of the machine, NOT on top like most machines. So I had to find out how large the opening for the thread spool was, so that I knew if the spools I had were too large for the Machine. Plus I wanted to purchase embroidery thread because I had never owned a machine that had this function. So I contacted the company threw their web site. This was their reply: The 60609 was designed, typically, for 200-550 yard spools (we use 550 daily in NYC). 1,100 would be the max we recommend for the standard spool pin, but the secondary spool pin, could accommodate up to 2000 yards. Please be advised that this really has more to do with the size of the spool itself, as the pin is only able to accommodate spools that are 4.5" by 1.5," some are longer than others and some are wider than others, all based on different companies. We can accommodate different weights no problem, as long as it's not thick-embroidery thread. Typically polyester Coats Dual Duty or Dual Duty XP is best advised, available in all sewing boutiques and Wal-Mart. Then they had a follow up email asking if they had answered all my questions to my satisfaction and to contact them by phone or email at anytime I needed help. I have to give them 5 stars for their customer service and quick response. You can access the user's manual for your Spiegel 60609 at: https://spiegelsewing.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/216440077-Where-can-I-find-a-digital-users-manual-for-my-Spiegel-60609- The machine came with 7 different feet along with Accessory bag with T-shaped screwdriver, bobbins (6), needle pack, seam ripper/cleaning brush, edge/quilting guide, screwdriver (1 large/1 small), spool cap (2 large/2 small) Threading the top of the machine seemed a little tricky at first till you looked at the small diagram in their user manual then it was a snap to do. Programming the stitch you want to use and sewing a project was very easy. I really have to say, that even if you are a first time sewer this machine can be the most user friendly machine that I have ever used. The best feature that I found with this machine is I did not have to use the foot pedal to start or stop your machine. I have never been able to regulate the foot pedal to the correct speed needed for the project I was working on. And it all so will use the feet from my older machine. This machine is everything they say it is in their deception and more. I am very pleased with this machine and very happy that I have it in my home. Very easy to set up and start sewing right out of the box.
