Great-looking Shelves for the Money!

I bought two of these bookshelves to replace the desk in my studio apartment. They sit side by side, flush, and they look like one solid unit. I have different storage bins and baskets on the shelves to hold all of my items in a clean, fashionable way. Even though the pieces are not made from real wood, the bookshelves still look great and do look like real wood. The chocolate is a rich, dark, dark brown, much more like typical expresso-colored furniture. They're also amazingly easy to put together. Took about 30 min for each one. The instructions and illustrations are very clear, and assembly only requires a philips screwdriver and hammer. My apartment is carpeted, and I'm not putting anything ridiculously heavy on the shelves and I don't have children, so I did not use the security bracket to tether it to my wall, but it does come with one. Overall great purchase, I'm very happy with how they turned out.
All put together. Tada! With storage bins for organizing.

Just what i needed

Excellent Value

I purchased 2 of the 4-shelf South Shore bookcases and 1 of the 3-shelf bookcases in Pure White. I would highly recommend this purchase. I've had them for about 3 months and I am extremely pleased. Prior to this I had purchased Mainstay bookcases but these seem to be of better quality. They don't bow like the other ones did (although I keep lighter books/materials on the upper shelves#. The instructions say that it takes 2 people to assemble them. I am not a do-it-yourselfer, but I was anxious to get my books off of the floor and decided to attempt it myself anyhow. I am a 66-year-old woman and I was able to assemble each one in about 30 minutes by myself. They look beautiful. I assembled them on the floor #following the instructions step-by-step# and then simply raised each one up and put it in place. This is a good buy, easy to assemble, and look great in my front room. I wish I had bought these in the first place instead of the Mainstay ones #which I have given away after only 1 year). These are much easier to assemble, hold up better, look better and I would recommend them to anyone.

Just what I ordered

I have had SouthShore furniture for about 5 years now so I knew what to expect when I ordered this bookshelf. It was my first time putting something together, and it took me about 2 1/2 hours to complete. I couldn't find the hammer so I had to improvise, which is why it took me longer to finish it. The manual states it needs 2 people to put together, but one person is just fine, assembly was very easy to do and the bookshelf really isn't that heavy, I was able to lay it on the floor and lift it up myself while putting it together. Moving it to my room was simple, I had furniture gliders help me with that since we have carpet. The only problem I had was screwing the small piece at the top of the shelf on, it seems the screws were too small and they kept falling out so I just glued it with gorilla glue. But overall very satisfied with the product and you get your money's worth.

BEAUTIFUL

I was looking for a nice bookcase for my grandsons room - I didn't want to pay a lot of money, since he's only with us on weekends; yet, I didn't want something that looked cheap. I ordered this bookcase from South Shore and I have to tell you, I was stunned when I opened the box! Although it is the pressed wood, it is absolutely beautiful!! I did have one problem, one of the boards didn't have pre-drilled holes, so I contacted the customer representative, Blanca, and she was SOOOOO HELPFUL!!! She immediately got another wood piece delivered to my home - and it was PERFECT!! I am 67 years old, with arthritis, and this was very easy to assemble! It is VERY sturdy and looks like it cost a lot more than $70.00!! I wish I would have done his entire room using South Shore furniture - absolutely TOP QUALITY at a very affordable price!! I couldn't be happier! And Blanca, you are THE BEST!! I would order through the company just because of YOU!! :) If you are looking for a quality bookcase - but don't want to spend hundreds of dollars - order from SOUTH SHORE!!! You won't be disappointed!!!

Pretty good buy...worth the money...

For just $70-ish ship to store it is a very good buy. If you expect solid wood at that price then good luck finding it. Instructions were not that bad if you have ever built a model kit then you are good. I used some Elmer's wood glue during construction and it is solid as a rock. The cherry color is very nice and a great match to my bed which is solid wood. The back is of the thick pressed cardboard style and it comes folded into three sections. that is the only complaint for me as the center folds stay slightly 'bowed' out and not flat. But that is better than three separate sections for the back in my opinion. I also used Elmer's wood glue to help the nails provided keep the back in place. They did ship it Fed-Ex to the store and the box corners did arrive kinda beat up but the packing kept everything inside in good shape. Thinking about buying another to keep my books and my 2 young boy's toys in easy reach.

A Sturdy Cabinet with one minor design flaw.

I bought this cabinet to compliment my long discontinued Furinno bookcases, which I use to hold board games. The instructions were easy to understand and the materials themselves seem to be average quality for the price of the product. Once finished, it looks great and holds my stuff adequately, but there's a design flaw - the pieces that hold up the removable shelves are hard, flat plastic ledges that simply hold up the shelf as opposed to the pegs that fit into grooves like on the Furinno. Since the shelves have nothing to prevent them from sliding out, when you try to pull something out of the bookcase horizontally you might accidentally take the whole shelf with you. This was easily addressed by buying some double sided tape and applying it to the top of the plastic pieces, but could be a problem if you're not aware of this flaw. tl;dr - great shelves for the price, but beware the poorly designed shelf holders.

Great inside a closet, terrific customer service

I bought two of these bookcases in white for my son's closet to store his collections of books, games, and toys. They were easy to assemble and are sturdy. The price was great. All the parts were there, and the directions were clear. One of the boxes had 2 left sides and no right side. I contacted South Shore, and they sent me a replacement right side within 4 days. I am not crazy about formica or melamine or whatever the plastic laminate with visible seams along the edges is called. So I would not use these bookcases in a room where they would be visible. But they were perfect for a closet and a lot easier than installing built in shelves. This height fit under the existing shelf and rod. I just put them in, so I don't know how they'll hold up over time, but so far, so good.

Good product

I ordered two (white). This is the first put-together product that I've received where the holes were properly drilled and matched up. And, plenty of supplies. The instructions are pictures only, so I had to figure out a few things. Both arrived on time as promised, in good shape and fairly easy to put together. The back is heavy cardboard (color matches the bookcase), attached with small nails to the back. I'm using them as shelves in my master closet to hold linens and other items. I recommend this bookcase if you don't need a heavy-duty, all-wood, frequently used bookcase (like shoving books in and out a lot as the back may become loose). All you need is a small hammer and Phillips screwdriver to put them together. They are great, basic, shelves.

Meets My Needs

This is a good product for the price. The instructions say it requires two people to assemble, but I did it easily by myself. Everything fit together just fine. The bookcase looks very nice in my dining room. I ordered the chocolate, and it's darker than it appears in the picture (think very, very dark chocolate) but I still like it.
