    Outstanding!

This player is awesome! You'd swear you were watching a blu-ray when you stand at least 5 feet away from my 42" hdtv. They aren't kidding when they say it upconverts dvds to near-hd quality. Using this dvd player with an hdmi cable blows other dvd players connected with simpler composite a/v cables completely away. The difference is night & day. This player is also smart enough to automatically present the dvds in the proper aspect ratio (no cropping, zooming, or stretching if movie is presented as widescreen; only stretches full-frame dvds horizontally), a very nice feature! Very sleek, small, & stylish player. Not noisy, as others have stated. You won't be sorry. Sony rocks! Wish the universal remote worked on my Sanyo tv, though :)

    Sad to say, Sony disappoints

I bought this dvd player on July 20, 2010. Upon first purchase, the product seemed great. The remote was lacking some basic features but I chose to keep the product because of the quality Sony offered with their products. Sadly, 8 months after my purchase, the player began to fail. It was clearly and internal issue yet I spent an hour chatting with support being told how to "clean a dvd" or "check my power cord". Ultimately, despite being under warranty and under a year old, if I want the product serviced, I would need to pay to ship it, pay for any labor (no price quote could be given) and pay to ship it back to me. The whole process would take an undetermined amount of time. Frankly it's just not worth it. Find a product that will last longer than 8 months. I won't buy Sony again, and I bought Sony for 16 years prior to this. I expected a lot more.

Good DVD Player at Good Price

Although my 12+ year old Sony DVD player still works fine for good DVDs, it couldn't handle the highly scratched rental kiosk disks. This one, so far, seems to tollerate them. Bought this instead of a more expensive Blue Ray player because it was all I needed. I also like the new one button feature to do a short rewind/replay when you missed some text that was hard to read on your TV versus on a big theater screen. This player still also has the higher end component video and digital audio connections that work in my non-HDMI environment. The loading tray is a little delicate because the player so small, so I would be cautious turning this player over to children. Because it is so small, the display is hard to read across the room and it is so light that my bundle of attached cables want to pull it out of place.

    Inexpensive HDMI DVD player

I was looking for a low cost dvd player with an HDMI output for my LCD TV. I plugged in one cable (HDMI) and am enjoying watching dvds. I liked the compact size of the player too.

    very nice

The upscale player is excellent. Improves sound and picture, easy set up, is NOT tuner-less. It is energy star rated. Fabulous purchase!

    Great DVD player

If your looking for inexpensive high quality dvd player, I think this would fit anyones budget and expectations. It has very small display of status (loading, ejecting, etc) on front of player, and is easy to read. I would recommend to anyone.

Does exactly what it is supposed to do

This is a fine DVD player, great value for the cost. The remote is well designed and works well. I saw a couple other reviewers say that there is no open/close drawer button on the remote and how that was so inconvenient...but think about, if you are opening the drawer you are going to remove or insert a DVD and you have to be right next to the player to do that....so, I don't understand why that would be a big deal to anyone. Typical Sony quality, it works well and is a great value.

    GREAT UPSCALING DVD PLAYER

I bought this dvd player a couple weeks ago and it was easy to set up and the picture quality is excellent. It really does upscale a regular dvd to HD. Seems to be well made and is very attractive. I was going to purchase a blu-ray, but so glad I didnt since video rental stores almost never have blu-ray dvds and they are WAY to exspensive to buy. I promise you, the picture quality you will see from this dvd player will amaze you. This was money well spent.

    great dvd player....great price

my parents owned an older dvd player that would'nt play ALL dvd's (especially the copied ones). I set up this one (super easy) and used an HDMI cable with it that I bought online @ Walmart for 4.88. What a fantastic picture!!!! I would recommend it to anyone! Had to order a second one for their 2nd TV !!!!

    Sony DVD Player

The remote control did not work from the very beginning. I called Sony customer service and they told me how to reset the remote. After resetting the remote it started to work, but only partially. In that I mean it would play a DVD, but would not power off or on. I thought this may not be a big deal. The next day, tried it again, and again the remote didn't work at all. Tried to reset it again, but this time nothing happened. Terrible instructions were of no help, they didn't even address how to reset the remote. They simply read that if the remote doesn't work to check the batteries. Horrible, cheap product. I was very surprised how bad this DVD player was considering it was made by Sony. Do yourself a favor and don't buy it.
