I have had my machine for a few months now. I did not know anything about embroidery when I started. I took it out of the box set it up and have been going ever since. I only have one complaint. The large hoop is only 4 1/2 x 6 3/4. I wish it was a true 5 x 7 or 6 x 10. Here is a project I did with my machine. It took 5 hoopings and then I had to sew it together.

I am in the process of relearning how to sew. I needed a new machine the 4 I had were worn out on window treatments and old old old to begin with. I read all the reviews and decided to try it anyway. I found it at a much better price. I was dissapointed slightly, but not due to the alerts It is a picky machine but if and when all is set correctly no alerts... I actualy like the alerts they keep me from waisting time rippingout. The machine is a little loud so it seems rough. The instruction video is a joke and should not be included. But it does include a quick reference guide that is laminated ( I get a lot of use out of it ). I think for my needs which aren't many in machine embordery and/or deciding whether you will really want to fool with embrodery it is fine. I am looking to buy a serger next. Somthing I know I want and will use often, so I plan on not going "bargin basement" on that. However, at the easley found price of $299.00 it is a very good value to get started with.

I am totally new to home embroidery and I spent over two months researching and comparing different brands. When it came down to it, the price and the capabilities were what I needed in the Futura. The only thing I would like is to have the auto digitizing software but I could not afford it right now. I look to purchase it in the near future. I have been learning from mistakes. But the machine is very forgiving and helps to prevent more mishaps. For instance I was checking the bobbin yesterday and I forgot to replace the clear plastic cover and when I started sowing my upper thread got all tangled in the bottom. But fortunately, the machine would not let it continue for long. This software that comes with the Futura does not have much to do other than resizing and moving the design around. YOu definitely have to have a program to edit the design at all. I am currently using Sierra's Stitch Era Universal because it is a free program. But it is limited in what it can do. These things probably won't be a concern to anyone who does not care to make any changes to their designs. Good Luck.

This machine was actually a Christmas present for me. I had a brother SE-270d which I loved by the way and decided to upgrade. The machine is a lot different than the brother but the Stitch quality is amazing. Once I figured out how to thread it right (because the brother spoiled me) operation was a snap. I thought that I wouldn't like not having a screen on the machine but seeing it on the computer is sooo much nicer. The bigger hoop was also a BIG plus for this machine. I Luv it!

This machine is terrific! Yes, I received the constant beeps in the beginning because the machine was threaded incorrectly. You just have to pay attention to detail. The embroidery unit is wonderful. There are many steps but you get used to it as you become familiar with the machine. this is a good machine and I'm very satisfied. Great value!

Im wondering if after buying this machine,I can immediately embroider an applique designs saved to my computer? Or do I need the Autopunch software for anything that isnt already stored on the machine?Wouldnt the USB port allow me to use designs I already have, immediately?

    • A. Yes, you can. BUT every time I try to do lettering the ce150's tension goes crazy. It will sew good for awhile then bunch up on the back. On the singer website I found that A LOT of ppl are having the same problem and they only offer one solution, which I have tried over and over and it doesn't work. I will be returning my machine. I would change my rating I gave when I first got my machine, but it won't let me. Do your homework before you buy!

Is it a color or black and white screen on this unit? How often does it have to be serviced to keep threads from building up?
    by kdaymayday 11/22/2010

    • A. There is NO screen on this machine. It needs to be connected directly to a computer for operation. You see the design on the computer and monitor it from there.

    • A. there's no screen on this unit. You connect it to your laptop or computer and see everything on screen! I love it because i can view it on my 17" screen instead of a tiny 3" or 4" one!

    • A. The only background is on your computer screen, make it what you want. For the threads, I check for threads in the bobbin area every time I use it.

    • A. The screen on this machine is color. Users should periodically remove the throat plate to clean out threads and lint from under the bobbin case and in the hook area. With normal use we recommend have the CE-150 professional cleaned and serviced about every 18 months. If the machine is used heavily it will require servicing more often. Thank you.

    • A. For pockets you would have to detach the pocket from the garment to embroidery then re-aatach it back to the shirt when you are done. As far as hats, yes you can, they make EXPENSIVE hat hoops, which you really do not need, you can do it without, just google for some how to's on how to do this. -Sewinginusa.com

    • A. To do caps, you be better off buying a HOOPITALL hoop. There are cheap china made hoops, but HIA is the BEST! Also, HIA makes all the Jumbo sized hoops for the Futura! The largest hoop for the Futura from HIA is 12 x 24!!

    • A. I am answering based on my use with a different brand of embroidery machine . . . I am fairly certain that it will be the same for the Futura, but you can check at any Joann store for confirmation (that has a machine center). In order to embroider on baseball caps, you need to have a "hoop" that is designed for caps. It then slides into the embroidery unit and allows you to embroider on the cap. It will have to be specific to your brand of machine. My suggestion for pockets on shirts is to do the design on stabilizer in the hoop, preferably a stabilizer that you can then iron onto the pocket. Cut the design out as close as possible to the stitches, and then iron it onto the shirt pocket. You can then hand tack it to the pocket for added security. The only other way is to remove the pocket from the shirt, embroider the design and then re sew the pocket onto the shirt.
