Best of the best

Iv ran a few different oils in my race bikes and ever since the switch from A recommendation from my father that has a gold wing with 90,000 miles no issues my race engines show very very minimal wear and tear in between seasons

Rotella T for motorcycles with wet clutches

Motorcycle is a Honda ST1300 with 13000 miles on it. Have used the Rotella Synthetic, ostensibly advertised for diesel engines, but without the "high efficiency" additives, it works very well with my motorcycle. Clutch is just as good as new, and the engine uses no oil. To boot, the container has four quarts in it, and that just fills the ST. The Amsoil salesman stated that there is now no zirconium in Rotella T synthetic, but in my opinion there is a limit to the addition of trace elements to motor oil, and since the synthetic is a superior lubricant that will not carmelize, it is plenty adequate for everything except maybe flat out racing.

Great product at a great price

This oil does exactely what its supposed to do! Engine is quieter, runs smoother, and stays cooler. Unfortunately for me, my car calls for 5w30 and this is 5w40, thus my avg. mileage, after three tank refill periods, did go down by 1 mpg. (1995 Buick Roadmaster 350/Lt1 w/34000, yes only 34,000 miles). Combo city/hwy 15 mpg to 14 mpg. Oh yea, Walmart will probably be the best price around, however they sell it higher in the stores than online (and they will not honor/price match any online prices or ads, even if you choose the ads for that particular store). So, do their online ship to store option, you will have to pay online but at least you get the discounted price. Plus go to the Shell Rotella site and sometimes they offer a $5 mail in rebate offer to, makes it 14.22 a gallon, not bad!

Excellent motor oil...many uses

I use this oil in the last 3 Goldwing motorcycles I have owned. I change oil every 5,000 miles. The oil has at least 5,000 miles remaining on it when drained. I am sure I could go another 5,000, but it has become a habit to change at those intervals.

1. This oil contains metallic anti-wear components which are not suitable for use in many vehicles with catalytic converters as those components eventually will clog catalytic converters and will ruin their atmospheric pollution control capabilities. Also according to many owner's manuals this oil is not the proper viscosity for automotive and pickup truck use.
by KawasakiBiker
2. I contacted Shell on this oil. Their reply, Dear Sir, While the synthetic Rotella 5w-40 does have an API SM rating for gasoline engines, it does not meet ILSAC GF-4/5 specifications and is not recommended for vehicles with catalytic converters. Regards, Shell Technical The diesel compounds will plug catalytic converter according to mobile.
by gotagto
3. It is perfectly acceptable in 4 cylinder gasoline engines. Although it does not meet VW certification for the use in Volkswagens, I have several friends that use it in their 1.8T VW/Audi motors with great sucess and no signs of sludge. I have used it for years in my Volvo, BMW 4,6,8 cylinder motors.
by Eurotrash
4. Only use it if your manual states that a 5w-40 viscosity oil is OK. Most gasoline engines call for 10w-30. Can't tell if a diesel engine additive package makes any difference to a gasoline engine.

1. With full Synthetic you can go between 4000 to 5000 miles between changes
by user987654
2. For which application-motorcycle, car, etc.. I change every 3-4k on my bike because an engineer friend of mine and motorcycle rider believes that the engine is harder on bikes than cars...so we must change the oil sooner than we would versus a car. If I put this stuff in a car, I would change the soonest every 7.5k. At 4k my motorcycle oil is dark. If you want to keep your stuff at least 7 years, what's really the cost over the long run....
by uvac79
3. Depending on geographical location it's depends, but every 3000 miles is a good guide line

1. Shell oil specifically recommends the use of this oil in place of a 15W-40. The only advantage a 15W-40 would have over Rotella T-6 5W-40 would be price. In cold weather, the T-6 would be much easier starting.
by MotoGPfan
2. Yes you can, this is the only oil I use on my 2007 F350 6.0l Powerstroke diesel. My truck ran noticeably smoother when I first switched to this oil. The Ford manual also calls for 15W-40 in this truck.
by SMS600
3. Yes! I just put this in my CBR and it's just fine. "40" is the actual weight which will work. "5w" just means it will start in colder weather than "15w"
