Most helpful positive review
This book was born out of an exremely painful period in Denise Pass's life and she has chosen to share her experiences and her journey so that others can benefit. As I read about the traumatic circumstances that touched her family I was sickened that she and her children suffered so much and felt so ashamed. This is a book about shame but it's not with a 'shame on you' mentality; instead, this author is instructing readers how to get rid of those feelings and get the 'shame off you'. I am very impressed with Pass's transparency as she shares her hurts, her feelings of helplessness and hopelessness, and finally her realization that God is bigger than all of this! In reading her book I recognized that all of us have experienced feelings of shame and the only difference is in the type of shame and the depth of our feelings about that shame. There are so many reasons why I liked this book. The accounts of personal experiences, the devotions and the prayers at the end of each chapter, and the Reference Guide at the end of the book with its abundant supply of God's Word that is applicable to the different types of shame we experience. Some of the subject matter in this book certainly isn't easy to read but Pass has made it easy to understand and she has been very honest about her feelings of failure and rejection. I believe Shame Off You will be a valuable resource for both personal use and church study groups. It offers support, encouragement, and confirmation that God and His Grace are truly the key to escape 'from hiding to healing'. I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher. I am voluntarily sharing my honest thoughts in this review.

Learn to recognize and process feelings of shame in a biblical way to restore God-ordained self-worth and hope.

"There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus." -- Romans 8:1

Shame is an assault on the core of who we are. It assassinates our character, minimizes our worth, and dashes our hope. Like Adam and Eve, we often hide shame, but hiding never heals it. Left unattended, shame can develop into a crippling reality that paralyzes us. Like an infectious disease, shame impacts everyone . . . but not all shame is bad.

Shame can either be an oppressive and powerful tool of worldly condemnation or a source of conviction that God uses to bring his people back to himself. Having the discernment to know the difference and recognize shame in its many forms can change the course of one's life.

In a transparently honest style, Pass shares of her experience dealing with shame after learning that her former husband was a sexual offender. Having lived through the aftermath, she leads you into God's Word where you will see for yourself that God is bigger than your pain, shame, mistakes, and limitations.

Shame Off You shares how freedom can be found in choosing to break the cycle of shame by learning from the past, developing healthy thinking patterns, silencing lies, and overcoming the traps of vanity and other people's opinions.

A Valuable Guide for Conquering Shame

Shame Off You: From Hiding to Healing, by Denise Pass, is an indispensable book for dealing with and conquering shame. Shame Off You gives me the hope and tools I need to overcome the stronghold of shame. I learned that shame is a much larger problem than most would like to admit. While its effects can seem debilitating, there is a way out. The way out is through Christ alone. Through Him, we have all we need to get past shame and move forward into hope and healing. Denise Pass has written a valuable book that guides readers to freedom, health, clear thinking and true peace. I learned that although I have felt shame, it is not who I am; shame does not define me, nor is it my life sentence. Denise Pass shares her own personal struggles shame, and guides readers to a better way: a way of strength, courage, and truth. I very highly recommend Shame Off You. Everyone needs to read this book and find the hope that changes lives. *I received an Advanced Reader's Copy of Shame Off You: From Hiding to Healing, from the publisher. Live free of shame

Do you deal with Shame?? Isn't it time to be free?? That someone would be willing to open up and share this story show that healing can come to those who are hurt. We don't have to stay in this place because God breaks shame off of us. When we begin to understand the enemy is the one who tries to keep us in the bondage of shame then we can begin to walk out of it and into freedom. Don't stay where you are! Allow God to heal your heart and take the Shame off. Maybe this is the book that will help you walk free. What a necessary book!! I received an advanced copy from publisher. This is my honest opinion!

Shame doesn't have to consume you anymore!

“It has been said that what we think on, we are.” This is one of the many sentences that pierced my mind and heart while reading this book. Denise did an amazing job in balancing her own personal stories of shame and helping the reader to understand how to fight shame. This is a great book for anyone who has endured shame and needs to learn how to overcome it. Denise's story is not a pretty one but her story and the scriptures she uses will inspire you to kick shame to the curb in your own life.

Very Helpful Book

Do you have shame in your life? Must of us do. Shame caused from what others have done to us or from what we have done to others or even to ourselves. But God doesn't want us to live in shame. It's not of Him. In this book Denise Pass shares openly and honestly the things that have brought shame to her and how God delivered her from that shame. Along the way she shares scripture that God has given her that helped her to get shame off her. Have shame? Shame off you is possible! I highly recommend this book. I received an advanced reader copy for my honest review of this book

Helpful and humorous book about casting off shame

Denise Pass faced an avalanche of shame when her former husband sexually abused one of her children. She faced a difficult divorce, many court appearances, and a lack of support from her church. Through this harrowing situation, Denise turned to her faith in God to sustain her and help her find freedom from the stigma of shame. Shame can be a heavy subject for a writer to address. But Denise handles it well, balancing the truth with self-effacing stories. She has a goofy sense of humor and often casts her own shame stories in a funny light. Yet she still addresses tough topics with sensitivity. While reading Denise's stories, God helped me uncover some hidden areas of shame in my heart. Even though they aren't the same struggles Denise described, her stories helped me turn to God for comfort and insight. I'm grateful that this book helped me deal with areas that I didn't realize were affecting me. She grounds her book in biblical truth, helping you learn how to overcome shame through the power of God's Word. She also shows you how Jesus endured the worst shame possible on your behalf. He identifies with you and will lift you up out of your shame. He will give you a new identity that has no room for shameful labels anymore. While you read this book, your spirit will be lifted as you realize God is your comforter and strength in your own shame stories. Favorite Quotes from Shame Off You “When our work and lives are truly focused on serving the Audience of One, we don't fear shame or seek accolades, we want just His glory alone.” “The root of our shame is formed by a fear of rejection and cultivated by comparison.” “Rather than letting shame turn into resentment, hurt, or bitter feelings, we can powerfully choose to forgive those who shamed us and pray for them. Their shaming does not apply to us unless we let it.” “The need to be able to process shame biblically is crucial in a social media-rich society.” “There is no shame on us for who we uniquely are. God gave us all the worth we will ever need.” Shame Off You includes a Scripture Reference Guide full of meditation verses for many different aspects of shame, such as anger, comparison, finances and parenting. This helpful guide will enable you to eradicate shame from your thought life. Abingdon Press and Netgalley graciously provided a review copy of this excellent book for me.
