This is a romance I feel the male population would enjoy as much as the female sect It is a very realistic tale of life many experienced as an indentured servant! Sofie never thought of herself as beautiful. She had become very close to the cook and her daughter, Clare. She thought Clare was beautiful& much more shapely than herself. Her parents and sister died on the ship during the journey to America. The Sherman family had taken 12-year old Sophie into their home as an indentured servant until the age of 21. They educated her so at adulthood she could be married to an accomplished man who would provide well for her. However, first Mr. Sherman died with his wife following two years later. Now the younger, tall, dark, and very handsome Damien Sherman was the master of the house. He was very different from his parents and obtained everything he wanted. Eris, Sophie's elder brother by several years had settled in America and was instrumental in arranging for the rest of the family to join him. It had been several years since she had sen Eric at her mother's funeral but though of him often. He surprised her by visiting her at the Mansion while the master was away on a trip. She was seventeen. He took her across town and introduced her to a couple who were very dear to him and was told if ever she needed help, they would be there for her. After Eric left again, Sophie visited the couple every opportunity she received. They became like family. One evening while Sophie was alone cleaning, Damien decided she was what he wanted. Sophie managed to escape but feared for her life. The couple she had adopted. made arrangements, sent word to her brother, then helped her escape. Sophie's life was never again the same... Someone was always "seeking" her. This novel has plenty of action and drama to keep the reader captivated. The characters were easily related with and seemed real. The situations were portrayed so swell they were easily visualized. Although some of the story was predictable, there were enough twists to keep it interesting. This was well-written, the Book Cover and Title were well-chosen. I highly recommend it. This book was sent to me in exchange for an honest review, of which I have given.
