The Schwinn 130 Upright Exercise Bike comes in a carton that will fit in the back seat if not the trunk of most cars. It's heavy and bulky enough to require two people to pick it up. Once assembled, it works as advertised. It's quiet and the exercise programs built into the computer offer a wide variety of intensity, ranging from A Ride in the Park to Pike's Peak. My only complaint is that the assembly manual is partly out of date. I had to call the tech support number and spend a good bit of time with the support person, who had to find a more recent picture of the bike than was shown in the drawings in the manual. In particular, the stem that supports the handlebars was shown as having two cables coming through it, while mine had only one. It turned out that there had been a slight redesign since the manual was printed: one of the cables is now built into the handlebars and plugs into a socket on them instead of coming up out of the stem. This was a surprise to the support person as well as to me. Aside from that, this is a good product and a good value.

Solid Exercise Bike with Adequate Resistance
1/6/2010

Customer review by CarpeDiem1

4.0 stars 1/6/2010 by CarpeDiem1

I purchased this exercise bike in-store and have had it for a few days now. All required hardware and tools for assembly are included. The bike is fairly easy to assemble although some of the instructions depicted wires in locations that were not correct. The pulse wire was actually attached to the handlebar and not threaded through the handlebar post as depicted in the assembly instructions. Other than that the parts fit together very well and the bike feels quite solid and stable. Assembly took about 2 hours including unpacking and inventory of all parts. It would have been about 30 minutes less if I didn't have to disassemble the handlebar post and search for the wire that was inaccurately depicted in the assembly instructions. The bike is easy to use and feels solid and stable when using it. The posts and parts feel high-quality and of a heavy guage. So far it is nearly silent with the only sound being generated from the air moving with the feet. The magnetic flywheel itself is completely silent and there have been no squeaks. The handlebar includes a reading rack. The entire handlebar tilts forward and aft for different viewing angles. One minus on the magazine rack is that it is made from rough-coated metal so placing a cell phone, iPhone, or other sensitive device is probably out unless you don't mind having it scratched. It is possible, however, to place a plastic magazine rack on top of it and use that for cell phones and the like. The pedals are oversized and quite comfortable. The seat post adjusts upwards and downwards and the seat itself can be slid back and forth. The seat can be angled as well but this has to be done with a wrench or socket. The seat post accomodates standard bike seats, which is a plus, since more comfortable seats can be purchased and installed. The negative is that it take a few minutes to remove the seat or change the angle. Sliding the seat back and forth and changing the height requires no tools and takes seconds. Another plus is that the rear post has built-in levelers that can be adjusted easily to level the bike on uneven floors. The bike also has a built-in grip pulse and several programs built in. Due note, however, that the LCD screen is not backlit. The riding position is fairly comfortable and the bike offers a very good range of resistance levels. Other exercise bikes seem to lack an adequate upper level resistance but this one has enough resistance at the upper end to meet the needs of most users. The bike has two wheels in the front so it can be tilted and rolled. It is about 75 lbs and more difficult to move than lighter bikes at a cheaper price point. I feel it is a good tradeoff, however, given the stability the extra weight and larger dimensions provide. My initial experience with this bike has been very good and I am quite satisfied with the purchase. I have purchased two exercise bikes previously in the past few years at this price point and this one is by far the best. I enjoy the stable, smooth ride, adequate resistance, and the solid feel of the bike. Time will tell how the bike holds up to daily use. I am hoping it will remain silent and not develop any annoying squeaks.

Great exercise bike!

I am very pleased with this exercise bike. It was easily assembled with good instructions - took about 30 minutes. The bike is whisper quiet, offers a range of exercise levels and has a good heart rate monitor. It has a small footprint and takes up very little floor space. We have it behind a chair in a corner of our living room where we can see the TV easily. It's nice to get in a few miles in the evening while watching our favorite shows, without bothering others in the room. Definitely good value for the price. I highly recommend it.

This bike is AWESOME to say the least. It was rather easy to put together, other than having to dig a wire out of the front pole for the computer. That was very tedious. It is REALLY quiet. The only noise I hear is from myself pedaling. The seat gets uncomfortable after about 5 minutes. That is my only major complaint, which is easily fixable because you can buy a different seat to put on if it's too troublesome. I've had it about 3 weeks or so and I LOVE it!!!

Poor pedal system design & customer service
4/11/2014

Customer review by JBGuitarPlayer

We bought this after seeing it at a relative's house. For the price, it seems to be a very nice piece of equipment. Unfortunately, I soon found out the same problem that so many others have mentioned. When pedaling, my heels hit the crank shaft of the pedals. No problem I thought. I've seen reviews that say that Nautilus Customer Service will provide larger pedals for you to help alleviate this problem. Many have received them for free and some had to pay for them. However, when I called Nautilus, they insisted that there are NO larger pedals available for this bike! Even though I pointed out how many people had said that they had received the pedals, they still insisted that there were none available and they didn't know why those people said they were. Essentially, they said all those people were lying. I don't appreciate this at all and am tired of companies not owning up to their mistakes. With the right pedal system, this is a nice bike. Because of the pedals and the lack of customer service, I cannot recommend it.
